Are we putting ourselves at odds with the parks?

Thats not what I was asking, I don't care if jeff said "it wasn't meant for the public," that is not what I am asking! I am asking what if Jeff had posted prints of CP's new ride?  I'm not asking why he wouldn't do it...
I have to wonder if the parks at times aren't playing games with both the public and enthusiasts.

CP pours foundations visible from a public area for what has to be an impulse coaster, but still hasn't made an announcement.

SFNE puts plans for their new coaster on the wall of a construnction trailer where they are visible through a window from what is apparently a public area.  I think they already had announced the coaster by then though.

PKI hasn't announced what Tomb Raider is, but they allow enthusiasts to tour the construction site and take photos.  And, those footers leave only a limited number of possibilites for what the ride is.

PKI has not allowed any enthusiasts to tour the TR:TR construction site.

All photos and blueprints have been obtained by other means.

I agree he made a mistake, but you have to realize these plans are easily attaneable from a company that is based in New Jersey who sells plans and specs for all jobs on the internet.  I could have shown you the exact nitro specs last year.   I think he made a bad choice, but he has to sleep in that bed now.
what is this the next watergate? Is screamscape now as large as the Washington Post? :) I think everyone is drastically over-emphasizing the situation. There are a lot of unwarranted assumptions that people are making about how the plans were obtained and so on...IMO the only thing Screamscape could have done that is wrong was to obtaining the plans without PKI permission or intent. I think  people are letting their animosity towards Screamscape, hinder their view and which creates a bias opinion on this subject. (BTW I do not see any reason to hate Screamscape).

How about we think of it like this...Jeff mentioned an Impulse, but so did 3/4 of the rest of us.:) As for Screamscape, they shouldn't have posted those photos, if he wanted to prove he was right, he couldn't wait till the '02 season? I feel bad for PKI because of their effort to keep this a surprise.

The roughest part of a B&M is having to get off.

He's lost his opportunity for future info from the parks themselves.  That's almost assured.

The indoor photos at PKIGuide were sent to me anonymously, and I can guarantee you that they weren't taken on a "tour."  The fact that they showed absolutely nothing about the ride itself and only the inside of a steel framed building is what made me feel that publishing them was reasonable.  If they had shown parts for a Giant Top-Spin half assembled, that would have been a different story.  I would like to have a reasonable relationship with PKI in the future, and posting what Screamscape posted puts those types of relationships in jeopardy.

But maybe he doesn't want that credibility - it's his choice.  I just disagree with it.

I have a question for all of you.  Let's say some park was planning some huge ride for next year and the information leaked out but they didn't want it to.  So now that you know, would it stop you from riding it?  I think not.  The park would be anouncing the arttraction before its opening anyway, so it doesnt matter.  My point is that if information is leaked, it doesn't hurt the park at all.
Yes, if it were something I wasn't interested in.

Intrigue would draw me to the park.  But any release of information that attempted to belittle the ride may thwart my interest in attending.

The park would have announced the ride before you got their anyway so why does it matter if you get the news a few weeks earlier?
PKI was adamant that they were not revealing the ride unit itself.  They wanted guests experiencing the attraction for the first time to be completely surprised.

The topic started as "are WE putting ourselves at odds with the parks".  Overall, I'd say the parks are ecstatic to have us.  True we MAY be a small percentage of their overall business, but I'd be willing to bet that, on average, we encourage others to go WAY more than average, go a LOT ourselves, spend a considerable amount of money at the parks, and ADVERTISE for them everywhere we go for FREE (what with the t-shirts, bumper stickers, patches, etc.).  Now any business in the world would LOVE to have customers like us....so the answer to the question is undoubtedly...NO!

Now the topic has actually evolved into a discussion about Screamscape's decision to publish their information.  On this front, I'd have to say that Screamscape has definitely jeopardized their relationship with PKI...but if it was REALLY important to keep it secret, then someone/everyone at PKI has to do a better job of keeping it secret.  (I'm not as sure about this, since, as Shaggy mentioned before, the only "bad" publicity really is NO publicity)...maybe that was PT Barnum instead of Shaggy....not really sure, LOL!
