are stand-ups gone for good?

I love the stand-up coasters. I've ridden Mantis and Riddler's Revenge, and I loved them both (although Revenge was the better of the two, in my opinion). They provide a unique experience from all other coasters, and I've never found them to be painful. I have only ridden one floorless, Kraken, but I was not impressed with it at all. The whole floorless concept had very little influence on the substance of the ride. Don't get me wrong--Kraken was fun, but it didn't even compare to Mantis or Riddler's Revenge for me.

I have been hearing from various people that the reason for the slowdown/stoppage in stand-up production is not comfort problems, but rather structural problems. I guess the stand-ups, for whatever reason, are very hard on their structures and require very high levels of maintainance. I just hope that this doesn't mean that we'll never see stand-ups again.

Hopefully they will disappear, and the B&M ones that exist will be converted to floorless. They are hard on the body, and dangerous also. Two fatalities have occured on these rides (Six Flags St Louis and Kings Dominion) where riders have fallen out.

As far as King Kobra goes, it is just another Togo piece of junk and the land where it is would be in better use for the Bayern Kurve that originally sat there
I enjoy Mantis. I think it is a fun ride. However, it looks like there will be no more standups built. The industry has seems to have moved on.
"They lack intensity, excitement, speed, height, etc,..."???????????????????????????Huh!

Intensity: most people complain that they are too intense
Excitement: Standing up on a coaster is not exciting?
Height/Speed: 160 ft. plus is not big, therefore fast?

here can honsestly say they would trade in all of the inverted coasters for more suspended coasters?"

Many people say that they died off because of the inverted coaster. It appears that way, but I don't understand why. They both deliver a different ride, so why did the inverted coaster crush the suspended? I would love to the see suspended coaster make a come-back more than the stand-up (except they could use lapbars).

I may of only ridden 1 stand-up but i loved it.
And it WASENT a B&M.
The Ge-Forces ruled and i couldent feel any strain that i wouldent feel on a regular sitdown.

The most awsome element ive ever been on has to be the 0-G-Roll on Shockwave at Drayton Manor so i really hope stand-ups arnet dead.

Anyway if you read the plans for SFA last year you would of seen that they had a planned Stand-up but it was only cancelled when the Flying Dutchman deal fell through with Paramount.
So maybe this Stand-up will indeed head to SFNE as rumoured
I've never ridden a standup, but I have always wanted to. the only one close to me is at astroworld and that's not worth the trip. I hope they revive the standups and put one at my home park, SFOT.

I too would love to see an arrow, hyper, SUSPENDED with amazing lat. G's.

I like suspended rides because their the one design that rule with lat. g's

I wouldn't say they are done as of yet, I know one park which is will be receiving one......
And what park might that be?

And do you know for a fact these people were riding like they were supposed to? They more than likely weren't. People don't just "fall out" of coasters on a regular basis, except in dreams.

V2, Deja Vu... how can it be better? Add Viper! Oh, wait. It's already there!
Super7, I'm talking about the King Cobra at PKI, not PKD(King Kobra) which I think was a shuttle loop. Big difference. No coaster is a piece of junk. Especially the first of it's kind.

If a designer could just get something out there that wasn't painful to anyone, they would be great. The whip turns on Mantis are just amazing. It's all up to the parks though.

I'm confused Koaster King. In another board you ripped Cedar Point apart because all of it's "first of its kind" rides were out of date and no longer held records. But, when you bring up King Kobra at King's Island, you say its the best because its the first of its kind. Can you explain to me the reason in your difference of opinion when it comes to the two parks?

1)I didn't rip CP
2)I don't care about records
3)I never said they're out of date
4)King Kobra isn't at Kings Island
5)I don't like KC because it's a first and never said it was best because of it
6)I like KC because it doesn't hurt and it's fun
7)I don't like B&M stand-ups but I respect the design
8)I respect parks that like to put firsts out there but for CP having several near-firsts, I feel it would've been a better decision to hold of at least a year or two(Imagine how much better Raptor would've been in '96 and Mantis in '98)

Ok #1 The Six Flags St Louis standup did not go upside down and was deemed the rider's fault for not riding correctly

ALSO #2 It was deemed that it was the boy's fault that he fell from King Kobra last year. He wiggled out of the restraints because he wanted off (or something to that effect).

RIDER STUPIDITY is NOT the park's fault!!!!

Time for stupidity proofing like Disney is having to do at it's parks. Is the GP just getting dumber or what?

YES, FINALLY there gone hopefully! I hate them they suck. Its so stuipid cause you wate in a long line to ride a short, painful ride. They should just burn all of them and use the metal for new **BETTER** coasters!
ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO CORRECT A STATEMENT

when you bring up King Kobra at King's Island, you say its the best because its the first of its kind.

KING COBRA was NOT the first Stand-up like PKD would like to have everyone believe. Extremeroller at WOF was converted from a standard sitdown corkscrew to a stand up one year before the King Cobra was built. Granted King Cobra was the first "built" stand up, but it was not the "first" stand up.

I hope standup coasters aren't gone. Because I still want a standup coaster that is 180 or 200 feet. Oh yah, I hope one day Knotts can get one.
Though I am not a huge fan of stand-ups, I don't think that they will become an extinct type of coaster any time in the near future, look for many more stand-ups as time passes.
