April 2004 - New York

Hi there!

I'm new to the coasterbuzz.com boards so I first want to say hi to everybody.. hope we'll be having a good time!

Next I got a very important question:
I'm going to fly to New york from April 2nd to April 17th, and I want to ask you if you if there's a park going to be open or not?
Please tell which parks are going to be open, and tell me also to which parks YOU would go...

Again I'm from Austria so I might not go to New York as often ;) so I want to go to as many parks as possible!

I don't know if you will have a car or not, but the parks you can get to via mass transit from the city are Astroland, via the subway, and Playland, via bus. Check their websites for scheduales later, as they have not posted their new scheduales yet. These are two great parks that should not be missed.

Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey is also accesible by public bus.

By New York, I'm guessing you mean New York City. If you are referring to elsewhere in the state of New York, you'll need to be more specific. There are over 30 parks in the whole state, and the state is big.

Let us know if you will be renting a car, and how far you would be willing to drive. There may be more options.

As for NYC, that's pretty early in the season, but you may be in luck. Astroland is usually open by the second or third week in April, and with Easter on the 11th, I would expect the park to be open that week. SF Great Adventure also opens fairly early in the season (weekends in April). You might miss out on Playland though, I think Rye Playland doesn't usually open until the first of May.

I was so sad to see that was the case with Astroland, as I could swear that the Cyclone was open year around. I am going to be there in 3 weeks, and I was really looking forward to a cold ride, hopefully by myself.

Oh well.........

Well its 20 deg F in NYC with a wind chill of 10 deg. It is also expected to get colder in the coming weeks. I would not recommend Cyclone unless you have masochistic tendencies. Plus don't coasters have rollback issues in cold weather?

Fate is the path of least resistance.

Rob. If you do find that Astroland is open, I still need a credit on Cyclone, BAD.

Astroland usually open on Palm Sunday, IIRC.

Moosh is right. Andy, I'd planned on a short get together, but NAY, it shan't happen this trip. Oh well... I only have 2+ days in Wayne, NJ anyways. :(

The Coney Island Cyclone officially opens (as well as most of Astroland) on Palm Sunday which is April 4th this year. Other attractions (such as the Wonder Wheel, individually owned concessions, etc.) are usually opened on a case by case basis.

ACE usually holds an event that afternoon from 12-4 which gives you unlimited rides on the Cyclone and Astroland attractions for $10.00 (which is a great deal as opposed to the $5/ride). For the last 2 years most attractions have been open that day.

Be sure to bundle up - those ocean winds can be mighty cold.

All the best,

Yeah Hersheypark looks like a pretty cool park, same with Dorney Park, BUT are those parks open by April, if so only on weekends or also during the week?

What about Great Adventure? I really want to go there, never been on a flyer or B&M Hyper so this is a must go, been to Magic Mountain, Knotts, Busch Gardens Tampa, Seaworld Orlando, Island of Adventures, but that's about it ;)

No coasters in Austria....

Well I won't be able to rent a car since I'm only 18, so bus transportation, trains, busses or something like that would be cool!

aight, greetz Wolfgang

PS: check out those 2 songs of my band "The SunSurfaz" *g* - Hope you like em!

It doesn't look like Dorney and Hershey are open in April:

As medusa3289 pointed out, SFGAdv opens April 3rd. *** Edited 1/10/2004 4:51:47 PM UTC by person***

Jeffrey Seifert and Mamoosh,

Obviously you didn't catch the reference in TOPTHRILLDUFF'S post...I won't spoil the fun, so you can try to guess what movie it came from. :)

OMG I have a new sig!!!
Hershey won't be open in April. That's usually when the have private parties that buyout the park. The only weekend it might possibly be open is Easter weekend, as that is when Springtime in the Park usually is.
