Anything new at kings island this year?

crazy horse's avatar
I have been looking around on the web, but had not found out if there is anything new going on at kings island this year. I know there not getting a new ride, but what about the rest of the park.

The official web site mentions nothing but info on season pass sales.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Expanded live show lineup, including two new country shows in the Festhaus.

Edit: Also a Cinnabon going into International Street. Here's a video on Youtube of KI's presentation at Winter Soar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOf1vf1kIyQ

Theres not a damn thing going in. Just a lot of Unbranding and firings.

Hey CF, What happened to 22 percent re investment? Paramound averaged 7 million a year in new things. Not all well spent but they did.

You'd think they'd try to time things a little better. At KD, they can somewhat distract the coaster nerds with Dominator while they turn the trains on Rebel Yell around to go forwards.

KI is by no means a bad park, but they're kinda shooting themselves in the foot with no new rides, dumb renamings, and no more recaR.

I think they're a little too optimistic if they think the enthusiasts (who they don't care about) or the GP (who they do care about) are going to overlook all that in favor of 2 new shows in Festhaus.

Heck, I don't even like country. That means no more Festhaus for me I guess. =(

I'd think the PR department would not be very appreciative of what corporate is handing them this year.

Here's a good case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't". It's times like these that make me love Jeff's "enthusiass" term.

Seriously. The company has 12 parks to invest in now. They could go the irresponsible route and pull a Six Flags, installing multiple coasters in most of its parks year after year until they go broke. If they went that route, you'd be complaining about how irresponsible they're being.

Yet, if the company takes a year off from adding a major new attraction, you give them just as much hell. It's not like they aren't investing in the park this year. Believe me, I'd like to see a new ride just as much as the next guy, but I do realize the company needs to be fiscally responsible, and I can also appreciate the other investments being made at the park this year.

I personally think the company has been pretty fair in their cap-ex in the past couple years, and looking to the future, it seems to be sticking to that formula. CP gets Maverick, VF gets Renegade, CW gets Behemoth, CGA is getting a new woodie next year, and there are substantial rumors of a new hyper going in at KI next year.

Not this year, but there are some substantial rumors about a hyper going in next year with the station located in the Swan lake and the track going out towards Rivertown, into the woods right next to Tomb Raider taking a 90 degree turn to the left and then turning around right by the Beast finale helix.

So, if thats true (and it looks like it is) Im perfectly fine with them doing nothing this year :).

Yeah, I'm thinking they're going to "lay low" this year, and then try to blow us away with the new hyper next year.

KI is not on my list for 2008, but if they do receive the (well deserved!) hyper next season, it will be a "to-do" park for me. *** Edited 3/21/2008 1:24:00 AM UTC by DantheCoasterman***

Umm, last year they installed a $14m coaster at KI. By my count doing nothing this year averages to $7m per year.

Thank you.

It seems like the park is not doing much this year. The two shows seem ok if you like country music(I don't).

A 14 million dollar coaster that was already paid for and ten six years old. The might have had 4 mill in it.

Don't get me wrong but KI gets three times the attendance as Knotts gets and Knotts has gotten several things, This will be CF's third season at KI and we have one.

Chuck, who was mearly pointing out that in their press release ALL PARKS will be operated INDEPENDENTLY and have a 22 percent REINVSTEMENT on their ATTENDANCE.

KI has beaten and runs close to CP in Attendance. They now have a resort and CP has added three 20 million dollar plus coasters amongst other things in the last six years.

But like others have said, KI can never get something that will beat the flagship. Neither will any of their other parks.

Chuck, not really thrilled about a B&M hyper, The three I've ridden were not even close to the intamins in thrill factor.

^But...you have to remember that Knott's is in an extremely competitive marketplace, and also makes money from the restaurants and shops and hotel outside the park that do not necessarily reflect in the theme park attendance numbers, so revenue is coming in even if the park is closed.
KI DOESN'T have a resort. Great Wolf Lodge is fully owned and operated by Great Wolf. KI has no stake in it now.
No, It's only owned by Dick K's Brother or brother inlaw, can't remember which :) And the Marquee flashes Resort packages. www.greatwolf.com

Ki does things in the off season. they rent out the halls to conventions and ladies axuilary groups. It's not big buisness but it is buisness.

KI bought out Jellystone, lock stock and barrel as well as all other stakes under paramount. Your telling me they made or make nothing on Great Wolf?

Cedar Fair didn't buy the stake of GWL from CBS when the sale happened, and then GWL bought that remaining share from CBS a while back. Great Wolf owns it outright.
PKI added a coaster last year (a SIX-year-old coaster...not ten). It looks like they will be adding another next year. Did anyone honestly expect a major addition this year? Seriously, what the hell are some of you whining about?

At least it's not about the flyers anymore. ;)

(although I suspect residual anger)

Well, I think it is the flyers that bring out Charles's anger of the park in general.

While I think that CF has damaged this park in some respects, they didn't need to add anything major for the 2008 season. If the B&M hyper rumor comes to light for 2009, all is good at this park.

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

Not a Nitro fan I take it?!?

No. Nitro actually kinda sucketh.

And Gonch, no its not about the flyers. It is about something, ANYTHING to make the park NOT THE SAME DAMN THING it was last year and the year before and the thirty years before that.

Even the smallest parks change things up to keep people interested. Under Paramount they changed things, Not always for the better but they changed.
