anyone been on Son Of Beast before?

whats it like? a looping wooden coaster? i need to get out there and check it out!
trust me its great. the loop is so smooth and full of g's its great. the best seat is either the front or the back they r pretty smooth. but if you want an out of control ride seat in the second car first row believe me it is unbelievable. but overall the ride is great and should not be missed.

When you look at Son Of Beast it looks amazing up close. When I wen't to Kings Island at the end of May I rode Son Of The Beast waited 2 hours for one time. The ride is rough and jerky. The first drop was excellent it would be even better if it was a little smoother going down. The lift height is pretty steep for a wooden coaster. They also had only 2 trains going. It's an ok coaster I would recomend The Beast before riding Son Of The Beast. *** This post was edited by VIPER on 7/7/2001. ***
Well, just look below to find out how many times I`ve tackeled Sonny. Generally its an awesome ride. I still prefer to ride The Beast over Son of Beast (if they added tunnels to Sonny, then it would be a tie). Son of Beast has always had 2 trains since around last July 19. Trust me, when I say its a fun coaster as I rode it 9 times one day last July (13 times in three days) when pawprint passholoders had an ert session on it.

I would recommend bringing a chiropractor with you. Beast and Son of Beast are the two roughest rides that I have been on. By the time the loop came in SOB(a very fitting abbreviation) I was so concussed and pummeled that I didn't even care about the fact that there was a loop on a wooden coaster. I don't mind being thrown around but these rides make Launch coasters such as Batman and Robin the Chiller and Outer Limits seem like smooth non jarring rides. Wooden coasters can be great but the Beast family is just too painful for my tastes. At least now I know that when I make a trip to CP I don't have to bother going south to PKI, it's a nice park but no real draw for me.
Last time I was there the line was like 4 hours long. I want to ride it though.....

SOB is GREAT!!! It is better than the Beast at daytime but not at night. IT IS NOT A ROUGH COASTER!! Its not any rougher than any other woodie I have been on!! Wooden coasters are supposed to be made like that!! The loop is amazing. Very much worthit.

BTW : The loop is amazing.

I recently rode SoB and I loved it. The only thing is that for a one-year-old coaster, it's pretty rough. The loop was really cool and pulled some serious G's! It's a great ride, but I loved the Beast better. Actually IMO, SoB was rougher than The Beast.

BTW: Fuller figured women might want to consider wearing a sports bra on SoB. ;)

Robodud, I agree that it is fairly rough, but you should have ridden it when it opened! I'm sure you know about the spot in the track that was taking people's heads into their laps before they reprofiled it.

Anyway, I love SOB, this year more than ever. Front seat is AMAZING! The ride is smoothest in the middle seat of your car.

SOB is my favorite woodie!! Those helixes are very intense like MF!!

IMO, it is rougher in the morning.

I have rode sob last year and this year and there is a big improvement. This year sob was a whole bunch smoother. Last year it was so rough I wouldn't ride it again. I is a great coaster since it isn't as rough. IT still has the roughness that all woodies have but it is a lot better.

I've been on sob 15 times and I love it. I'ts my second fav woody. It's pretty smooth for a wooden coaster that fast.

#1 steel= Millennium force
#1 wood = Shivering timbers
I rode Son Of Beast last week for the first time. I think i's great. It is in my top 5 wooden coasters for sure !

As for roughness - I only rode in the last seat. It was a little rough, but not too bad. Pretty typical for a wooden coaster. The Legend or The Boss are much rougher.

The loop...sure it's a gimmick in regards to drawing attention to the ride and making it stand out over other woodies - but it really does add to the experience.

This ride rocks. I recommend riding it regardless of the wait.

Figaro, I tohught that the Beast was one of the smoothest woodies I have been on! Wierd. You can't get mad at SOB for being rough, look at its size for a woodie. Add in crappy Premier trains, and sure it will be rough, but I loved it. I just wish it had a little airtime! Great forces in the inclined helix!

i've done son of beast about....15times or so.. I love it.. the beast and the sob are both excellent. i cant decide which i like better. I think the beast is better cause its surrounded by trees. I think SOB should get some foliage around it..make it like the beast.. i dont like how it has nothing back there.. other than that. go SOB
I was at PKI 6/30/01 and rode SOB. The wait was about 30 mins. which I found surprisingly short because of the crowds at the park. Earlier in the day I had the chance to ride Vortex with a local who said the key to riding SOB is to not set above the wheels. My daughter and I sat in the middle seat of one of the trains and neither of us found the ride to be excessively rough. I thought the location of the on-ride photo was odd, but made the best of it and I liked the photo so much that I actually bought it.
The SOB is good but not nearly as good as the Beast. Both rides are very smooth rides. The SOB can be a little rough if you ride in the wrong seat. Ride in the middle seat of any car and it is very smooth. If you sit in the other seats you are sitting on the wheels and you will get beaten up. The beast has never been rough for me. I have sat in every seat on that ride and never have gotten a rough ride.

Thank you for Riding Millenium Force and enjoy the rest of your day here at Cedar Point, America's Roller Coast."
I'll be going for the first time on monday the 16th. Hopefully the wait won't be long. But I'll take your advice viper and ride beast before SOB

I find it strange that there are people saying that SOB is smooth and that its rough. Are all these people riding the same coaster? I guess some people have different definitions of "rough". Anyway, SOB may be the most impressive looking coaster ever made, and the first drop and loop are 100% unique amongst woodies, but the rest of the ride is just kind of blah. It is a good coaster and I didn't find it to be especially rough, but its just not great, and can't quite live up to the original. To put it another way, i wouldn't wait more that an hour for it. P.S. If you want to go on a couple of truly great woodies, head a few hours west to Holiday World.
