Any de-construction pics of sfaw?

Or even buy some land near the park to build a parking lot, and just shuttle the peeps back and forth.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.

Ok, so if even leaving the parking lot issue out of the picture, still, I standby my statement. If you're not getting what you want as a consumer, then you have to make other choices. I also resent the fact that BFan says that Hurricane Harbor was only two slides, like that's all they did for 2005. No, try they did a multi-million dollar renovation of the former Paradise Island, and they repainted Joker's Jinx and Mind Eraser (complete with new colors and trains to match). BFan assumes the worst. He doesn't think we're getting anything this year and he might be right. But can we please wait until we're deep into the winter before we give up totally? Anyone who's been a season pass holder knows that the announcements typically aren't made until Februrary.
As far as the parking situation goes, you can't really fathom exactly what kind of a mess it was unless you went.

For example, we went the second to last weekend of operation... on a Sunday... when the Texans were playing a home game.

A logistical nightmare. It took us 45 minutes from the time we left the I-state and got onto the off ramp to the time we got out of our car in the parking lot.

When was the last time a park of THIS size (in attendance terms) was closed? I'd put this closure on the order of Palisades or Riverview...

Any more pics yet?

I checked the sites already listed, and no new updates.

My guess is that in the big picture, Six Flags isn't really getting that much for the land when compared with the loss they took selling Worlds of Adventure.

The parking situation is a serious issue, a major PITA that for such an unstable company Six Flags is, they just didn't want they hassle of getting involved. Very few amusement parks could ever justify building a parking garage. There is no conspiracy. Just a parent company with a terrible business plan.

70 million for the land........a bit less than six flags was looking for.

Considering AW was contributing between $5-9 million a year to company profits, what a shortsighted blunder to tear it down for a mere $70m.

Consider that they also don't have to buy more rides for new attractions at other locations.
Okay, now that Snyder and family have moved in.......could there be hope? Has the Astroworld site already been sold? I know they have removed rides and are moving them, but could Snyder and crew stop any further dismantling and actually save AW at this point?

^No. It's a done deal. Thanks for the links to the photos, we were begining to wonder when pieces of DD would start showing up here at SFStL. With it coming down I would say in the near future.

^^^Good point, a_hoffman.. The land itself is only worth $70m, but the total "price tag" is also in the cost savings of the rides (even if bought used) that went to other parks (estimate like what.. another 5-10million?) Not to mention, assuming fierce pancake's estimate of $9million to company profits, you're looking at approximately 8 years for the same $70 million in profit. Now, also add to the money NOT spent in additions/expansion for those 8 years. Even in general maintenance "improvements" (i.e. repaving cracked walkways, etc.) along with an occasional flat would figure about 10 million. Add in at LEAST one major coaster or 2 smaller coasters in that time would be just about inevitable, and you're looking at another 10 million, easily.

So, it seems to me that all-in-all, you're looking at another $25-$30million worth (at least) in addition to the actual cash generated, if not more.

Other thoughts?

Any new pics?
You know, the same cost analysis could be applied to about half of the Six Flags parks. Sure they could save money in the short term by selling and cannibalizing at least 10 properties but should they do that? Does Six Flags truly need to consolidate down to about five parks and shutter the rest?
