Here is a hint. The 54" height requirement sure does help with line control. It helps the fact that only older kids will be in line, which is a world of difference for long waits.
The 54 inch height requirement reveals plenty. It won't be a Dinosaur/Indy/Spidey style ride for a few reasons:
-- Indy and Dino opened as 46 inch height requirements. Spidey has always been at 40 inches. Once Spidey opened, Disney was able to tweak Dinosaur down to 40 inches to keep up with the family Jonesing.
-- Indy, Countdown to Extinction and Spidey had price tags far more than what Paramount could ever spend. You need a year-long park to justify the investment (which have been pegged at anywhere from $50 million to $200 million for Disney and Universal rides).
-- If the ride portion was even remotely that intricate, why spend 3/4ths of the time in pre-show?
If anything, this is a much closer cousin to Poseidon's Fury, only that the final room will be a ride portion.
The quote of four groups of 75 riders experiencing the attraction at the same time does not mean that all 300 will be in the ride portion at the same time. Like the earlier story, it seems to indicate that every 5 minutes a new group will be brought into the first chamber.
And the "wheeled vehicle" does not mean that it won't be a Top Spin. It's "wheeled" for theming. After all, it's a getaway vehicle. If it were a flat magic carpet with elevated rows of seating it wouldn't jive with the theme. Slap wheels onto the side of Top Spin as show props and it can be anything.
This doesn't mean that it's a Top Spin or that you can call Huss, ask for the Accounts Receivables department and ask if PKI has anything outstanding.
However, a wheeled vehicle on a track just can't justify the 54 inches that is pretty much inverted B&M territory. They're opening up a video game & PG movie themed ride that diehard Tomb Raider gamers and fans that happen to be 7 or 8 years old, won't be able to ride. No. The ride will be amazing. It will be unique. But that last portion is going to be jerky, flip-filled and a wild, wild ride. Either that, or the 54 inches is a beard, meant to throw off the scent.
Chaindog,
Good point. I think the lines of 'don't believe everything you read' come into play here.
Coasterplaya,
A 'full-bore simulation' ? Funny how people don't listen to parks when they release info about what a ride isn't going to be. Don't ya' think? LOL!
-Sean (who thinks TR is probably about as close to a simulator as PKI is to Roller Coaster Tycooon)
Cool...Sean confirms TR:TR is a sim! I knew you'd leak the truth eventually! BWA HA HA!

Mammosh,
HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT I SAID IT IS......................oh..........you were kidding. =:^)
Honestly though, I just got a call a few minutes ago from a member in my region that asked when he was to show up for the "Tomb Raider: The Roller Coaster ACE preview rides." I asked him if he meant the ACE walk-back rides. He thought that " because Tomb Raider is a roller coaster, ACE is automatically invited to the opening".
I had to gently break the news to him that Tomb Raider isn't a coaster, and the park isn't planning on having an ACE Preview day. From the sound of it, he was kind of ticked.
LOL! Where do these people get this stuff from?
-Sean
Sean - so you're saying its really a coaster? Woo Hoo! I knew it! I knew when you said it was a SIM you were really just covering up a larger truth! Of course with 75 people riding at once those trains have gotta be huge, but who cares?!?
Matthew - still giving Sean a hard time for those who might be slow to catch on.

So using Sean's and Scott's info I think I've narrowed it down to exactly what TR:TR must be: a simulated Top Spin Water Coaster w/ trains that seat 75!
Thanks, guys!

Argh! You are forgetting the coaster part that goes behind vortex! I know that is happening because they just painted it!!!!11

Watch the movie and put 2 and 2 together. Everybody's looking for a hint. Every video store in the US has had it on the shelf for months now.-----------------

Well, after carefully watching the movie, I've concluded......
In the last ante-chamber, riders will board their own 'planet' and revolve at high speed around a big copper sun. At the mid-point of the ride, time will stop and rewind. Then you'll go through the ride all over again, finally getting off to exit on a sled being pulled by huskies to the on-ride photo shop.
And like Sean states.....I'll be here all week too. :P
Chris
OK Sean, we've heard what you think the ride will not be, but what is your guess on what it WILL be?
Personally I don't think it will be any type of rollercoaster or IOA Spiderman type ride. My guess is that it will be some kind of flat ride (yes, possibly a giant top spin), but maybe a variation that we haven't seen before. And with all of the theming and effects, I think it will be a great ride.
Also, one thing that I found interesting from the Technifex Products website (maker of the special fx used on the ride)was the FauxFire and the FlowScreen that could make the lava and fire effects using water and steam. What do you think?

Rob,
What do I think it will be? That's easy.
I think it will be a 'heavily themed, totally emersive, dark ride adventure'. Nuff' said. =:^)
As for the Technicfex info, I could easily see that being used in the attraction. It makes sense to me.

And not that it matters, but thanks for treating us as people Sean and not plainly as screen names(although it could possibly be our real name ;)). I certainly appreciate it.

Hamilton High School: Home of the Big Blue and signing of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (and my alma mater :) )
I know we only have a couple of weeks to wait. I'm just having a little fun. I'll be there when they open and I'll find out for myself.
I'm not trying to pry it from Sean's hand. I know Sean wouldn't give up any info even if he knows what it is.
Rob (keeping the post going.)
Danny,
I respect people when they are down to earth so I am the same way. Plus, I meet a lot of people due to my rep duties. If I was an @$$hole, that wouldn't be very smart. I also find it amusing that some of the trolls that we see from time to time wouldn't face us in a public place if their life depended on it.
Sheik,
Sad to say, but the e-mail is true. I rode it on closing day, 'just in case' it was leaving for good. The rumor about it's removal had been going around for the last few years so I tried to ride it on closing day of every year. I won't be doing that this year. =:^(
Rob,
Sorry if it sounds like I am avoiding the question but I am just going by what is know at this time. If you look closely at what I have been posting since the announcement, you may have an idea of what I think the ride is, even though I haven't officially guessed anything just yet. =:^) I understand you are having fun so no offense taken.
You would be surprised how many people have asked me (and probably Shaggy) for info regarding the attraction. Even a certain reporter from Cincinnati asked me for info during the announcement. I think she thought because I was at the announcement, it had to be a coaster.
So, hopefully I will see some of you at PKI the first couple of weekends. I know I won't be there on opening weekend, but the 2nd Sunday of April looks good. I plan on being at the ACE walk-back each day I go so maybe I will run into you there........either that or at the DDR machine at Coney Mall (an other addiction).
-Sean
Sean, I *think* I have a guess, but won't put it out publicly at this time....I will say that you have followed the "party line" to a tee, and for that I give you credit..now, just between US, you can tell the juicy details...;). Seriously, I am counting on TR to deliver exactly as promised...I am a dark ride fan, but not really a spin'n'spew person...I think I'll be happy :)
Finally, I have "reserved" the acronym DDR for the "real" DDR, the log flume at IoA...all others are PRETENDERS to the crown...as referenced in the US Official Acronym Bureau Handbook, '02 edition.
