Isn't anyone going to build a TGG woodie? We kinda know what those guys are capable of, it'd be nice to see TGG build a coaster or two before it's too late and they disband...maintenance (retracking, etc.) alone can't keep that group of engineers contented and well-paid indefinitely.
Also, does S&S have any engineers on staff other than Dennis McNulty....if not, he'd better be prepared to pull some all-nighters, LOL.
With a track length of only 2040 feet,it indeed looks like the helix is designed to burn off some speed. If only my home park would biuld one of these:(.
For me ,height of the lift hill has nothing to do with thrill factor. My #1 coaster, the Vancouver PNE Coaster, has a lift hill of only 68 feet, yet this coaster delivers some of most insane ejector airtime known to man.
CCI#1 - Sky Princess
S&S#1 - Timberhawk
We all know what amazing coasters CCI went on to produce. Perhaps we should give S&S the benefit of the doubt, too?

Stan is a madman, yet Timberhawk is clearly a lame duck. I don't know if I trust them yet. Still, we haven't ridden anything else they have produced (wood), but doesn't anyone else fear that this might not be the best company to build wood? Just because his company has pioneered other fine thrill products doesn't put them in the company of CCI or GCI. Just my opinion.
I hope I am wrong. I really wish that Timberhawk had been built with more thrills in mind. It's almost like they did the computations by hand, as there are virtually no thrills to be had. It's like a bad first RCT creation. Thrill ratio: 4.2 "I don't think I will ride Timberhawk again."

Sky Princess, at about 3/4 the height, is way more fun. I think it's because after the first drop the rest of the hills are pretty low, meaning the train keeps a pretty good pace throughout the entire ride, especially in the helix.
Timberhawk seemed really poorly paced to me, even for a "family" coaster. That 300-foot long flat section of track at the end of the ride is just mind-boggling.
But everyone I've spoken to thats "in the know" says that SFEV asked for a family coaster. Second, it seems the GP really likes it and that's what matters to the park -- well, that and hoping the ride holds up over time and doesn't become a maintenance nightmare.
We'll see if Tsumani is an improvment.

Personally, I was quite impressed with Sky Princess (more than Moosh it would seem). The airtime was surprising for the park it's in, and the laterals were REALLY strong. All in all, I'd give SP the nod over TH any day, every day, all day....and I *liked* Timberhawk.
Out of the three new S&S woodies, I'm anticipating that the "thrill ride" of the set will be the one in Jersey.....lucky me! :)
You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

I'm anxious to ride S&S's next coaster....I hope they can pull it off. I just hope they don't use a room full of monkeys to design the next one! ;) *** Edited 11/18/2003 10:36:58 PM UTC by Peabody***
As for Mitch's poll, I still need to cram a LOT of wooden coasters into my top-10....think Paul Ruben will help me figure out HOW to do that... ;)

Gator - I loved Sky Princess, and it ranks quite highly on my ballot for Mitch's poll. Heck, it ranks higher than Timbers!mOOSH
I did a double take when I first saw this post... I thought that you were ranking Sky Princess higher than Shivering TIMBERS!
I can understand why many people love Timbers. I liked it, too and thought it was fun. But I didn't think it was the end-all be-all of wood coasterdom. And I can think of 31 wooden coasters I'd rather ride.

I don't remember too much about Sky Princess (I only rode it in its opening year), but I remember a decent family ride. Certainly is a beautiful coaster, though... has nice "lines" for an out-and-back.
