another clone wave?

I agree, Xcelerator is a great ride, not to mention visually appealing. Ghostrider is also great especially the ride after the mid-course brakes.

I agrree that the parks aren't really concerned about the VERY small amount of coaster geeks that go to the park. We're the only kind of people that actually know theres alot of B:TRs and morwe than 1 S:UF. The GP doesnt know. And they usually dont go to other Six Flags Parks. Some people (and this is from a friend of mine) still dont know that Shockwave is gone. Very weird hearing someone ask about 3 weeks ago "how are the lines for Shockwave."

Very odd.

Maybe Deja Vu would be on this list if it would open!

I am starting to wonder anyway about Cedar Fair and Intamin. Since 2000, five Intamin coasters have been added to CF parks. One is a clone (Steel Venom at Valleyfair)

And before I get picked on, there is only one or two coasters in my life that I think could have been designed better...one is the Grizzley at PGA... ;)

Okay, done talking out my nether orifice, back to work!

I have to agree and disagree wtih some people on this. I don't want to have to go all the way across the country to ride 1 ride that can be cloned and put near me, but I think that cloning rides takes away from the uniqueness of the ride.

"If you think about it, CP could have added two overbanks like Xcelerator after the top hat."

"Instead of overbanks, they could have added a hill."

Apu...please think before you post.

Hey, man. I was referring to janfrederick's comment on coaster expenses.

Disregarding the fact that cloning coasters doesn't matter, I don't think we'll be seeing a whole lot more clones of S:UF (or flyers in general). I've said this numerous times before, but I believe the flying phenomenon is just a phase, like stand-up and suspended coasters. I predict you won't see any more popping up in a couple years.

Right, and Dragster, as-is, cost $25 million. Care to guess how much more a hill or a few overbanks would have added to the cost, especially considering how big they'd have to be to keep the speed and G-forces manageable?

Agreed, Vater.

I'm actually somewhat surprised that cloning is as prevalent as it is, considering that, theoretically, it would be harder for parks that already have several coasters to find a large parcel of uninterrupted land to place a ride on. Then again, as SFMM, SFGAdv and SFGAm recently demonstrated, the parking lot works just fine in these situations.

Come on fhqwhgads!

I have to agree with Vater. I don't think that flyers are really catching on like say inverted coasters did. I think that we are going to see more and more diversity from park to park from now on as companies come up with more and more ideas.

In theory, I think the suspended coaster would have been more successful had the idea not been improved upon by B&M. But the stand-up coaster, even though the trend did last a good 17 years, I believe was destined to lose popularity, as will the flying coaster. Overall, I think people just want to ride sitting down...I sure prefer it.

Look at Steel Dragon, at a small park spent 50 million on SD2K. I think CP could have spent a few more million.

I don't mind clones at all. I really don't have the time to go to parks all over the country. That being said, I hope the next S:UF clone comes to SFNE. The one I rode at SFGAdv was awesome.

CP did spend a few more million, just not on a single coaster. There is a lot more to yearly upkeep of a park then just adding a coaster. They were able to berak the height and speed record and spent the least amount they needed to in order to do that, and still have lots more for the rest of the park.

BTW, this thread is way off topic... Lets talk more about clones... oh wait, nevermind.

Apunahasapinapetilan (holy jeez), do you normally consider parks with 9 coasters 'small'? It's possible that Cedar Point 'could have spent a few more million,' but why? So it could have a few overbanks that serve no purpose other than to make the ride longer?

Apu: After SD2K, what did that park build next? Hmmm?

Aren't you glad CP spent half as much when you think about it?

I still think they could have done more. Anyway, CP makes half of the money back anyway.

You're basically asking CP to throw money out the window to please you. They have a great intamin giga with hills and overbanks right across the lagoon (or whatever you want to call it). If you want hills and turns, go ride MF. If you want speed and height up the proverbial wazoo, ride TTD. What advantage would it be to CP to add hills and turns to TTD? It wouldn't get any more paying customers through the gate and would probably hurt capacity quite a bit (with the double blocking).
