Another "Banshee" mishap

another interesting mishap with the name Banshee

Just read an article in a magazine that said the original name for the Pontiac Firebird was Banshee. But they decided to change it for the same reason that cedar point changed to Mantis.

Ironically, a freind of mine works for GM and he showed me a few publically accessable "oncept cars" One of the cars was called "Mantis"
has ANYTHING ever been able to use the name 'banshee'?!

There is nothing even wrong with that name. A Banshee is made up...It's not real, so why should it matter?

Superman: Krypton Coaster----Just Ride It

1.) Millennium Force 2.) Superman: Krypton Coaster 3.) Steel Eel 4.) Raptor 5.) Mantis

what's the reason for CP not taking the name Banshee for the ride?

Fundamentalist christians objected to the name. Same people who think that Halloween is devil worship.

The name Banshee was used for the 1950's US Navy jet fighter, the McDonnell F2H Banshee.

Holiday World's Falling Star was also called "Banshee"

Yes it is! And the Koch's are Christian too! I've never seen anything wrong with the name either.

Yet noone seems to have a problem with Halloweekends or Knott's Scary Farm.

I don't think the name Banshee went far enough. I'd like to see more intimidating coaster names and/or themes. I understand these are family parks, but who in their right mind would have a problem with "Banshee". CP went too far on the side of caution with that one.

All Hollows Eve was a very wide practiced religious holliday/observance day in centurys past.

Wasn't the Banshee Logo almost Identical to Steel Forces?

Is it about coasters or friends? I say both!

If you ever REALLY want people to talk to you, wear a Banshee shirt to CP. Once in 98 or 99 I wore one and at least a dozen people questioned me about it. In fact, I got some temping offers to buy it!

I don't think I will wear it to CP again. Some people I do not wish striking up a conversation with ;)

Ummm, what do you suppose those people holding up picket signs on the corner of beach and La palma are doing? Just next to claim jumper. But still, many christian youth groups have trips to the event.

Banshee is also the name of a car in GTA:3 and GTA:VC

And the Koch's are Christian too! I've never seen anything wrong with the name either. That is why the park is so well ran.
Real Christians have better things to do than protest.

"Mantis was originally designed to run three trains, but since 2001 has been running two. When they were retrofitted with seat belts, it became clear that it took longer to load people on the ride, so it wasn't practical to run three. The positive side of this is that the trim brake on the first drop, which was used for adding seconds to the ride time (in the interest of having a longer load time) is no longer used.Mantis was originally designed to run three trains, but since 2001 has been running two. is this true? i guess it is but this is the only place ive read it lol. i heard people say it ruins/ruined the ride so that would be cool if its gone.

Yes, I remember three train ops on Mantis, and when they stacked you got a HARD stop on the first block of brakes! THis year the third train was sitting under the brake run wrapped in plastic

Oh, and for the trim, I could swear it hit when I rode this last June, but not as hard as past years.
