Annoying Park Maps

Having just returned from my first time visit to Sea World Orlando, I found the park map to be very helpful and easy to follow. It represented the park in a large format and attractions were clearly marked and accurately represented in so far as their location and entrances...as were restrooms and restaurants. Whether or not Kraken's layout was accurate is really a non-issue for me. I found it with no trouble.

By the way, my favorite park map is Hersheypark's. It is colorful, large, and accurately represents the attractions.

My only real complaint on park maps is the relatively few of them that manage to hide where the entrance to the queue for a ride is.
I've never used a park map to get around in my life. I only get them as souveniers.

I do illustration and design, and it's more than a mater of being accurate in the illustrations. You need to remember, that parks sometimes don't supply the designers with all the coaster info, so they dont know what to draw. Other times, its just a lack of how much drawing space there really is, seeing that they have to draw other important objects in and around the rides. But that X pict is really bad.

I think its interesting to see how an artist (not a coaster enthusiast) sees a ride, its an indication of how the GP see a ride to. As an enthusiast at parks with friends and family who are not particularly enthusiastic you must have had moments when you realise other people just dont stare at track styles, elements, different cars, etc, and probably wouldn't recognise 1 manufacturer from another. ( You know, the bit when youre in the Q rabbiting away about B&M and the underfriction wheels and they look at you like the nerd you are!)

There will be certain features about each ride the GP will remember-and these are usually the bits featured in these park maps.

I think its a good topic to!

GADV's map shows the park pretty well, except that ALL the coasters dont have their layouts, but still represents them. I'm looking forward to how they'll put S:UF on the park map, theres no room there. :)

However, I would hate to leave out the park maps of Kennywood and Miracle Strip....xerox paper is just plain tacky.

Lol, Kennywood maps. No wonder they were so hard to come by. ;) But it did help me figure the park out, so I'm not complaining!

Some people say that they like to experience the parks without using maps. I don't ever do that in a park that is new to me because I don't really want to waste time getting lost and going around in circles. The fact is, if I have a limited time in the park, I'd rather spend it on the rides than wandering around looking for them.

I love IOA

Well, They should atleast get the colors right....on SFNE's the SCREAM towers are red... and B:DK looks like a kiddie coaster...

Im the #1 Canobie Lake Park Fan!!!These are my top 3 coasters:
1. S:RoS @ SFNE 2. Yankee Cannonball 3. Cyclone/B:TDK

Hehehe... another crazy off season topic. Perhaps some of you need to get to the west coast or Florida quickly...;)

Throw the damn map away and just enjoy the park. You only go to a park for the first time once, take everything in and stop running into me while looking down at that stupid peice of paper! ;)

I don't mind when the parks exaggerate on their coasters - it makes the map look more interesting. As long as you can find where you are going and where the paths are is what I feel is important. On my Theme Park Brochures site I remember one map which was confusing - http://www.themeparkbrochures.com/maps/2001/vl2001.html. It's the 2001 VisionLand one. I've never been there but I can't find the path hardly anywhere on this pic. I can find the main one around the park, but not the smaller paths in the middle. I think its the angle that the map is drawn at which makes it confusing. I prefer the map from directly above, not from the side.

I remember a few years back that SFGam used to have two different maps every year. They had the version like now that they gave away at the parking toll and then they had a souveneir map that they sold in the gift shops for like a buck or two. Those maps were really nice because they foled out and usually featured a poster on the back with the logo of the new ride for that season. I still have a couple of them stuck in storage somewhere. My favorite was the one from the season that Iron wolf opened. The poster for it was awesome.

Heh, in the map, Poison Ivy is like twice the size of it =P

This isn't anything to complain about, but its annoying how SFGAdv's map, only has like the station and part of the lift on Nitro. Probably because most of the ride is so isolated, but it looks so lame on the map ;)

Well, since I am colorblind just about every park map is annoying to me. First time visits are pretty confusing for me.
