You could also pull off an outside loop on a "impulse" type coaster. As you are launched up the tower, you could start to go into a normal loop but then snap back around the top of the tower and go in towards the structure, then snap back out parallel to the other vertical track. Besides the G-forces, it would cost a bundle and might not be accepted by the GP.
