Amusment Industry Dream Job

I would choose CEO of Six Flags because I want to turn SFA into a "Xtreme Park" like SFMM, and they look like the most profitable orginization
as of now.

What is life without geniuses and SFA?
Calm down, Staticman. I wasn't calling you a liar, as I tried to make clear. I don't know enough about that stuff to tell if you're lying, I just said it was hard to believe. I would think that if I told you I had interned for a couple of elite and relatively small firms you'd be a bit skeptical too.

As for the wood/steel stuff, I know they're both covered in engr. classes but I don't know to what extent. I also know that many classes cover lots of material only on a surface level. I would assume that any coaster company isn't going to be like other firms in that they have lots of "lower-level" stuff to do -- they'd want you to know your area inside and out before they hired you. I would simply find it surprising (not impossible) if you knew so much about both.

There you have it. Sorry for offending you.
I think he is lying. Hes 19, which would make him a freshman, sophomore at most. Already he's near a major in mechanical engineering, a minor in structural engineering (I'm curious as to what school he goes to) and hes interned in Switzerland and Ohio. On top of that busy schedule he must keep, he's also found time to tour the country and ride like 250 rides, some of which have only debuted in the last 2 years or so. Oh yeah, and if he is so into riding coasters...why didn't he get to any parks in Europe while he was there working for B&M? If he isn't lying, thats very impressive and I wish him all the luck. But I call Bullsh*t.

19 years old, eh? I didn't know that Will, that changes the story quite a bit. Who knows how much truth there actually is in Staticman's post, but IMO any time someone posts to boast about themselves or what they've done or anything it has to be taken with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the....interesting feedback. I can understand your POV when you read something like that. Let me explain, then.
I graduated high school at a younger age than normal. I skipped two grades in grade school, thus graduated high school at 16. I enrolled in college the next semester, and turned 17 during my freshman year. I applied for, and was accepted into, an internship with CCI during the summer before my freshman year. I then had a work program with B&M the following summer. I don't have any European coaster in my track record because of a simple fact. I've never been. The program I was enrolled in was based state-side. And because it was a work program, not a co-op or a job where I was employed by the company, I was there to learn about the biz, and help out wherever I could. I got to travel a lot that summer, to new rides, and existing ones with B&M reps. It was a lot of fun, but I didn't learn too much about actual designing, because I wasn't in a professional school at that point.
The internship at CCI was similar to the program at B&M. Like I said, I lacked the technical knowledge at that point to really "do" anything. It was just a way to get acquainted with the biz, and introduce me to what roller coaster design was all about. If I were to apply for an internship now with those companies, I'm sure I'd have a different experience, and role.
Last summer, I made a huge road trip to many parks I had never been to before, like a lot of West Coast parks. I had been to a few when I was young, but the parks had changed greatly since then. And, I hadn't been to the East Coast much either, just Florida mostly.
Hope that clears things up. If you ave any other Q's, e-mail me, let's not waste Jeff's space.

I guess I got beligerant because I'm jealous. Being a structural engineer drop out, who once wanted to design coasters as well, I have since re-thought my college path. But I still regret not wanting to force myself through so many math and physicsd classes when I know it'll be worth it in 5 or 6 years. Best of luck.

I totally understand. Engineering is extremely tough stuff, man! A lot of my friends who started in Freshmen Engineering with me moved on, too. I considered changing NUMEROUS times as well, but that little drive inside kept saying "this is all you've wanted for your whole life, just do it!" Best of luck to you in your career, as well.
