Amusement Today announces Golden Ticket Awards, Cedar Point on top again

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

In a ceremony today at Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio, Amusement Today announced the results of its highly anticipated 2004 Golden Ticket Awards. The park was named Best Park again this year with its Millennium Force receiving top honors for Best Steel Coaster, displacing Six Flags New England's Superman by a few points. The Best Wood Coaster award went to Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce. As usual, Holiday World got a nod for being the friendliest and cleanest.

Nice recognition for Dan Feicht. That guy is the "visual voice" for the company. Every brochure, every print ad, every postcard... his touch is on everything.

Note Thunderhead's #6 rating. Very good. Dollywood is second in Staff Friendliness and Shows as well.

IMHO, Dollywood should be in the Best Food category as well, as it's the best about anywhere.

I wonder if SFNE's Superman took a few hits this year because of the incident as well as the consequential "ruining" of the ride.
It probably took a hit because there were a bunch of enthusiasts who couldn't fit in the seats anymore. Even with the new restraints, S:ROS blew me away. Nice choice in Boulder Dash. It absolutely rocked.
Well In my opinion that is the worst coaster list I have seen in the last 5 years, but that is just my opinion. I'm glad shivering timbers isn't number one, but I'm not glad that it beat Raven out.
I can't beleive that Thundercrap is ahead of GhostRider, Thunderhead is not that good!
Really? Everyone I've talked to said it "Was that good", and apparently alot of people agree...

I'll tell ya how I feel next July.

With this coaster lists there are always like 5 I could not disagree with more, 2 of which being Shivering Timbers and Thunderhead, while they were good rides, I admit that. They just weren't that good. I wasn't blown away by either of them like I have been with other rides, I'd like to see how many people have ridden ozark wildcat and Thunderhead, I have and Ozark Wildcat is far superior with better forces and a BUNCH better airtime.
Good to see PR still in the top #10. I'm surprised to see that Knoebels edge out Kennywood for best park, even though I agree with it. I'm also surprised to see Knoebels win best food by that much. How about Idlewild taking second best kids park!

Yawn.
While I have been on 5 of the top ten wood coasters, I agree with them being top coasters. Those 5 are my 5 fav woodies. But I have to disagree with the order. I think Legend is the best I have been on, and Timbers is 4th on my list, not 2nd. Oh well, I'm still glad that Beast is 7th.

EDIT: Here is my top 5 woodies I have been on:
1. Legend
2. GhostRider
3. Beast
4. Shivering Timbers
5. Raven

Okay, I have seen 2 people say Thunderhead dosen't deserve it's ranking, 2 out of millions! Noone else thinks that.

Ive heard even more people say TH is better than OzCat, and many more must agree, with TH being #6, OzCat being #21.

Did I mention how happy I am that Dollywood has moved up this year?*** This post was edited by CoastermanX 8/28/2004 10:57:02 PM ***

As I said before, the ratings just mystify me. Since it is my opinion it won't go beyond that. But I think that Ozark Wildcat is the most under rated coaster on the list. It is a hell of a lot better than many between it and #1. While I havn't ridden 400 or more coasters, I've ridden enough on the list to make that point valid. Texas Giant in the top ten confused me. It was good but yet again not as good as some below it.
It is just a poll of people's view on coasters. There is no need to get all bent out of shape and wonder why X coaster is ranked higher than Y coaster.

People has diffrent views on coaster. So what if your number one coaster in not on the list. Just remember that the only top ten list you should go by is your top ten list.

Why didn't X rank higher? ;)
Top Ten for Top Thrill? I thought Storm Runner was a better ride.
Too high for the Timbers?!?! I wish it was #1......:)
Coasterdave: you are absolutely right, it is just annoying seeing a coaster that you didn't like all that much (In reality I like Timbers and Thunderhead a lot but I didn't like them THAT much.)
