Amusement parks closed because of terrorist threat

In the recent terrorist attacks against the US, all four Disney resorts have shut down as well as Universal parks, Anheiser Busch Parks and all remaining amusement parks across the US have been asked to shut down according to MSNBC.

[CNN also confirms the closure of Disney Orlando parks. -Gregleg]

yes please do not target innocent people of arab descent
even though all accounts point to it being an attact of arab origin we have been wrong in the past with the oklahoma city bombing
I'm trying to hold my knees steady. It's difficult, but remember - if someone is going to attack a MLB game, or amusement park, or another building, it doesn't have to be today, or tommorow. It could be next week, next month, or next year. The risk will always be there. We cannot hide for fear of what might happen. We will all learn from this. Our country, as we know it, has been changed forever. But we will survive.

We cannot let them hold the whole country, or whole world for that matter, hostage.

So many coasters - so little time.

I agree that this attack makes our arguments seems silly.

If I had to guess what the terrorists want our reaction to be, I'd say they would love it if we would bomb their whole country and send them all to whatever they call heaven, because they believe that they are right and that that it would be the honorable way to die.  I can't imagine them thinking that we will all curl up in a ball and cry forever.   One of the hardest things is to see video of them cheering in the streets over this.  I guess military recruitment will go up.

You guys are over reacting!  The only amusement park terrorists would want to attack would be Disney, Universal, or possibly Busch.  Let's face it, Cedar Point and others simply aren't as reputable to the GP.  They are terrorists, not enthusiasts!

It would take a sick person to attack anyplace that makes other people happy. But it takes a sick person to attack anybody like this. They are say that the death toll is more than that of Pear Harbor. What I don't get is how they hijacked 4 planes. Rarely do people even suceed making attempts to hijack a plane.  This day will live in infammy. Somebody will have to pay for all of this. As some of the japanese commanders said after pearl harbor, " We have awoke the sleeping giant."

I don't think the US would make the same mistake as they did with Pearl Harbor! I think they are more concerned with finding survivors!! My stomach has been in knots all day. I live in TX, my family is in NY. I was at work when my boss came and informed us what was happening! I was on the phone with my family in about 30 min. from that! I was relieved to get through! I am happy that they live an hour and a half north of the city, my Aunt works in the city- thank God she wasn't there! I just can't believe this is happening! I don't think it is over!I hope so- God I hope so! My heart and prayers are with those families who lost loved ones! God bless all those precious people who lost their lives!!

World Trade Center, Pentagon, Some local airport in Penn. What's next? Millenium Force?
Why do some of you care about roller coasters being torn down by terrorists when lives are being lost AS WE SPEAK!

I think everything was closed down today in the major cities.
I now understand why people would be willing to go to war and die for their country.

Cedar Point is already closed during the week - only Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are operating days. Quite frankly, parks aren't all that important in the grand scheme of things right now.

As for relating this to Pearl Harbor - it may well be far worse than that. Pearl Harbor resulted in the loss of approximately 2400 lives, while the death toll here could easily be above 10,000. Let us hope that it is not.

Chaindog understands what I tried to say earlier. George Bush said today that the attack was intended to scare us "into chaos and retreat. They have failed." But as I look around Columbus, Ohio, I wonder if the terrorists have really failed. To look around this city, it looks like many people are simply scared stupid. I'm hearing about closed shopping malls, cancelled city meetings, closed businesses...And to what end? What is this supposed to accomplish?

The honest truth is that most people don't know how to react. Well, folks, there is very little that most of us can do. We can offer our prayers, we can be angry and upset, we can in some cases offer some assistance. But perhaps the most important thing we can do is to realize that fear and panic are what terrorism is all about, and to fight terrorism, we must not allow fear to replace logic.

Don't panic, folks!

please everyone...lets just put the coaster talks a minimum and offer up our thoughts and prayers to the victims families.  just pray that God is really with our nation during the trying times that lay ahead of us
Sea World Orlando and BGT closed today.

Mr. Mightymouse, I hope everything works out for you and your family. You should really keep going to school, though, because your spelling is awful.

Best wishes *** This post was edited by the thrill on 9/11/2001. ***

When considering things only in terms of lives lost....wouldn't it be better to have people spread out in the park than all be in the hotel? The terrorists are going to attack areas of extreme population density. I agree that it seems inappropriate to be running a park considering what's happening, though.

Anyway, the cancellation of classes at CWRU (and CWRU never cancels classes! It's university policy or something, but they did today.) It gave us time for prayer which we would have not been available, and that's something that's important to many of us. The shutdown of America today really isn't that important in the grand scheme of things. The long-term effects of the destruction of so many companies will be far greater...

I am very happy that all of the amusement parks across the continental United States closed today due to all of the tragedies. It will protect some of the fun - loving American people - not the ones who willingly start wars with opposing countries. As for the tragedies themselves, please pray for all the lives lost and donate blood asap. I cannot believe some of the people on this site, putting fun over a loss such as this. And by the way, it was way over 30, 000 people that have died.
