Amusement park rides are safe, despite high-profile accidents

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Time has posted a common sense article that puts the safety or amusement park rides into perspective. The article also points out that bigger and faster doesn't mean the ride is more dangerous.

Read it all from Time.

I love it when the truth beats the politics :)

Hey Markey, do you heard this? Roller Coasters safe? YES!!! Believe Markey!!!!

"Pootie Tang!"
funny thing is this headline reads the NEW roller coasters. The old one's are less safe than these highly engineered things!n Can you imagine the accidents in the roaring '20's!
Actually there were a lot of accidents in the 20's and 30's. Back then people didn't sue and if someone was hurt on a ride that made it more popular. Heck people would die on a ride like one did at Revere Beach in MA and they closed the ride for twenty minutes to remove the body and then reopen. Now those people were enthusiasts! Insane, but enthusiasts nonetheless.

Good ol' Time puttin things back in perspective. They always have a knack for keepin it real, and not b.s.'ing anyone. I remember when they did their big report on Columbine, and pretty much were the only non-music magazine that said music was not to blame, but rather the kids themselves. Time manages to be the moderator in these debates, and state things very un-biasedly and straight down the middle. God bless Time.

Great article, I'm glad somebody's decided to fight back. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the Steel Phantom in that picture?

Long live the RollerCoaster, and when I die they can sprinkle my ashes under the towering steel machine called Millennium Force at Cedar Point.
The paradise of all Amusement Parks . And I tilt my hat to your invincible research team Tme Magazine. Your reputation in my neck of the woods is TIMELESS.
Excelent! The truth comes out. However, I might think twice about playing golf again.
A couple of minor mistakes hidden in there, but it's nice to see an article in the press that is based on good sense rather than sensationalism.

Also, the picture is wonderful.
THANK GOD A NEWS ITEM IS FINALLY IN OUR FAVOR!!!!!!!!!!! I was getting a little bit tired of all of the media bashing amusement parks and saying that they aren't safe. Betcha that they are all crying now.

KoЯn Rules! I just came out to feed!
Finally. Hey Markey, are you reading this? This better shut him up.
Finally, some news organizatoin takes our side. Did you hear that Mr. Markey? Roller coasters are SAFE. Now, get on to some real important leglislature like tax-cuts instead of trying to pass silly laws.

Will there ever be a park prettier than BGW?
Read it and weep, Sen. Markey! (Nelson's laugh: HA! HA!)

This article is more realistic than others but this is what articals about coaster safety should say:
The fact of the matter is, your safer going 80 MPH through crazy turns, hills and whatnot than you are walking down the street, and that even goes for a farm road, where your biggest thret are cows.
End aticle

Reporters will drive by a 50 car pile-up, an Amtrak passenger train explosion, and Superman saving the world to see 2 people braking their nails on a rollercoaster.

Good one kingbob!
Duh.
