Alton Towers proposed woody!

Alton Towers has submitted plans for a new wooden coaster to the Staffordshire Moorlands planning office. The proposed coaster will dive in and out of a ravine and have two lift hills. Get more info at http://www.towerstimes.co.uk/news/woodie.htm

From what I've seen and heard so far, this coaster looks like it will be at least a top ten wooden coaster. Those drops look amazing!

Wow, I just submitted that to news too! Small world!

Holy crap that looks awesome.
I can't quite figure out the layout, but it looks like it has a double up on the way out of the ravine the first time and a double down going back into it.
Let's hope the planning board doesn't get all crazy.

Wow! That's aMAzing!

"Know thyself!"

As much as I would love it, there is no way in hell that the locals will allow AT to build this, its too "noisy"

I don't care what anyone says, Magnum is better then Millenium Force.

If Intamin built it as a plug-n-play, then it wouldn't be that noisy.

Backhand, who thinks signatures like this are redundant

Ok, I may be jumpin the gun abit... but I think it might just be an Intamin! From what I've heard they're not too loud, the train description reminds me of Intamin the intamin models. I'm not even considering those god-aweful SOB coaches, since we all know they are just so comfortable! ;)

Anyway, I really hope that the locals approve this as it looks and sounds like an amazing ride. I'd definitely make the trip over for this beast! :)

Looks like Backhand got to it before me :(

That is what I was thinking because the only successfull record breaking woodie is Heide Park's Colossos. SOB is still MUCH rougher than an average woodie like Shivering Timbers or Legend partly because of it's HUGE size using conventional track. With SOB being a poor track design I hope it'a an Intamin even though it's on the wrong side of the planet. I hope this gets approval and is a successful ride so that USA parks would start getting the balls to build me a GIANT Intamin airtime machine. It looks like I will have to start saving my pennies to take a trip to Europe in 2005 and bring the world's sweetest woman with me! I will have THREE Intamin woodies to hit if this gets built! Sadly there are ZERO of those in the wimpy USA!`
Sounds great and reminds me of Ravine Flyer II. I wonder which one will get past the red tape first.

its certainly going to be a much better addition to the park than the rumoured floorless which has been mentioned......

That's looking great. Going to be a large one as well, all the way from AIR to UgLand!

Rollergator, Sean F said the only thing Loud about Colosos was the upstops riding the underside over every hill! :)

Chuck, drooling for wood!

It is my personal belief that Lesourdsville Lake is closed for 2003. I'll let you know if anything is announced.

Ya know Kevin, From what Im told, The experience other than visuals are not much different than the S:ROS's and MF. So who you calling wimpy?

Chuck, who loves ST, Boss, SOB and many other wood coasters just because they are a little rough. Thats part of the experience and as long as they don't hurt you, I say quit whinning. Big Dipper, Screechin Eagle and a few other Smaller rides are just as ROUGH and provide almost as much if not more AIRTIME as some of the bigger, less WIMPY rides.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that Tussauds get the green light on this - that would be a huge coaster :)

A few years ago there was talk of building new approach roads to the park to alleviate traffic problems in the area around the park. Is anyone aware of what (if anything) is happening on this?

life is getting sweeter :)

Chuck the USA may be good as having the best steelies but I still think Colossos and maybe this new Alton Towers woodie may be the 2 best rides in the world and don't forget the worls steepest woodie Balder!
He, I was really hoping the SFGAdv rumor about them switching to an Intamin woodie was true, as I'd take one of those ofer Superman any day.

The Alton project looks sick, I'd bet they'll theme this ride quite nicely aswell.

Not to take anything away from this amazing development, because it sounds like a great idea, but why is it gonna be a wooden coaster? A ravine is Alton Towers only way to get a hyper (or anything above the treeline for that matter) and this idea seems like it should be more of a hyper. SOB has told that giant wooden coasters are rougher, with Colossus being the exception. Now if this new coaster is indeed made by Intamin, then the coaster will definitly be smooth, but what about the horrible idea that Intamin does NOT build this woodie. Alton Towers could end up with a larger SOB in a more dangerous position for repairs. I think a fabled BM Terrain Hyper would have been a better fit here, since BM made Air just a year ago and then maybe Alton Towers could get some kind of deal. That would boost the Alton Towers BM count to 4 :). Then SW7 should be a woodie in the woods somewhere. That is just the first thing I thought of, but Im sure that whatever Alton Towers decides to do it will be amazing.
The application says wooden coaster.

BlueStreak - give Alton Towers some credit. Don't you think, given the sentiments about SOB, Rattler, Mean Streak, Hercules, and Tx Giant and the kudos coming from those who have ridden Colossus, that they won't be giving this project out to any Joe Wood Coaster Company? Besides, Intamin is already admitted its involvement.
