Also proves that one person (Bob Rock) can strike gold at one time (Black album) and make poop another (St. Anger).

Lars is a weird and stubborn dude. I saw Metallica in 2018 and the number of times Lars was out of sync with the band was surprising. If you told me Hammett, Tulio, and Hetfield were using a click track and Lars wasn't I would not be surprised.

Lars's inability to keep time is legendary.

Yet he never seems to be out of time on a record. Hmmm.

I've poo-pooed on Lars for a long time. But his drum work on their most recent album, 72 Seasons, is some of my favorite I've ever heard.

He still does that weird thing with his nose in recent interviews though. Sticks it way up in the air.

The rest of the guys are really awesome though. Inspiring, even.

I'll toss a bone to Scott Litt as being one of my favorite producers. He parted ways with REM after Bill Berry had his aneurysm and left full-time drumming duties; he took their sound from something you would only find on underground college radio and helped them polish it into something special, while never losing their quirkiness.

Stipe (and the rest of REM) and Cobain were really close, and someone above mentioned In Utero as being "abrasive"...Scott Litt produced Heart Shaped Box and All Apologies, which are probably the least abrasive songs on that album.

Promoter of fog.

That’s interesting. I was going to mention this but didn’t for clarity. Their top 10 on Apple Music is mostly Nevermind. Those are the only 2 songs from In Utero and they stand out from the rest of the record. I wouldn’t be shocked if the label made them go back and record something they thought would work on the radio.

Ha Ha

In a 2013 Rolling Stone interview with Fricke, Grohl recalled that "everyone was concerned about the tempo of 'Heart-Shaped Box.' But click trackswere not cool.

According to Wikipedia they were both recorded by Albini but they went back into the studio to mix and layer because they weren’t happy how either turned out.
