Ads

I was in the forum section and I saw an ad for a free Girls Gone Wild DVD! I think that that ad should not be there. I wouldn't want that ad on my site. Just a little suggestion.

You probably have spyware. There are no ads coming from this site for Girls Gone Wild.

Actually, I've seen this ad also. It wasn't a pop-up either. In the top banner, it was one of those "click the moving object" ads.

Double-check your system for adware anyway. There are some particularly nasty variants out there that work by hijacking ad banners, replacing site-requested banners with banners coming from some other server. I've heard that Gator will do that, for instance, though I'm not certain. Anyway, I'm guessing that Jeff would consider that worse than simply blocking his ads: not only does the 'legitimate' ad get blocked, you as the user still get an annoying ad and it doesn't even support the site you're visiting!

Yeah, I have Spybot S&D on my system, I run it about once a week and sometimes more often than that depending on how often the ads are coming up.

I have to concur with the existance of these ads. I was talking to another member on MSN and she said that she went into CB Games and because she wasnt logged in she got the ad for Girls Gone Wild. She scans her system weekly. I scanned my system yesterday so I decided to check myself. I went into CBGames, logged out, and got the ad on the very next page I visited. This may very well be a valid concern....

PS: I used AdAware to do my scans...

It's the freakin' third-party advertisers.

Burst and Fastclick just had a rash of third-party advertisers who decided to run unapproved creative. They're no longer running, and all should be well.
