about the track record....

i was lookin around in a forum and clicked "info" and it said "0" for the person's track record. and just out of curiosity, i decided to set mine up. i went in to set it up, and it said i had to be a club member or log in. im already logged in and i clicked on the link and it brought up the coasterbuzz club information. why do we have to be coasterbuzz club members just to keep our tracks recorded? im only at 22-24 now, but for the people who are really high up there, i would think it might take a while to count up the tracks. i think with having an account on coasterbuzz should already be enough to atleast use the track record.

Read the info. about the club. The track record is one of the perks of joining. And, before you ask, that's not changing anytime soon.

http://www.coasterbuzz.com/club/

im only 15 right now, so joining the coasterbuzz club wouldnt do me any good. i cant drive to any of the events and my parents arent too big about going to parks for a long time or if they are a long drive away. so, with that said, it doesnt make any sense to me to spend the money every year/month just to keep a track record.

The point of joining is not to go to the event or to have a track record. It's to keep this place alive. Running a site like this isn't cheap, and we shouldn't expect someone to pay out of their own pocket for us to use it.

If your only 15 and your parents aren't big park goers, and you can't go to many events or ride many coasters, than why do you want a track record in the first place?

Keep your own track record if you care so much, Coasterbuzz provides enough for free already:

Communication with over 5,000 other coaster fans, coaster stats from almost any coaster, park stats for almost any park, other site links, reviews, up to date news, and more.

I am not a member of the club because I don't have a job and I, like you, am only 15, so money is not always just there for me to spend. But I think what Jeff provides for free is plenty enough and I for one thank him for that.

Would it be possible to say "not a cb club member" under track record because it says that "no coasters in track record" sounds like you haven't been on any

Hey man? I'm not being a jerk, but try to understand. Jeff doesn't care (nor should he) about whether or not it looks like you, me or anyone else has been on a coaster. This is not a popularity contest and he doesn't pay the bandwidth bill at the end of the month with monopoly money. This is real life. He's said a million times. Weigh the options. If it's worth it to you to be able to help out, do so. But if not, don't complain about it. Things are the way they are for a reason.

Sorrrrrrrry folks! Parks closed. The moose out front should have told you.

If you're really into the numbers game, you can just as easily visit a site where you get pretty graphics for making a thousand posts.

You know what I've learned in the last year or so? Number of posts, visitors, etc. mean absolutely nothing if you can't pay the bills (ironically created in part by having the most visitors, go figure). The only number that matters to me is the one in Quickbooks, provided it remains black and not red.

It doesn't matter how many coasters you've been on. Many of the people on this board I respect and listen to have been on very few coasters. There are plenty of people out there too that have been on 1000 coasters that I would never want to talk to, also.

Here is what you do if you want to create your own track record.

1. Get a piece of paper.

2. Get a pen

3. Write on the top of the paper "My Track Record"

4. Write down each coaster you have ridden below the heading you wrote above.

5. Tape this to the wall and enjoy.

As for the reason that there is a fee for this site is that this coaster site offers something that other boards doesnt offer. It has moderators that care about keeping the conversation on topic and that help quell the massive flame wars that you see on every other board. Jeff has done something very special with this site and that is why I threw down my 20 bucks to become a member. I didnt do it for the track record. I doubt if I will ever get to go to any of the events(although it would be nice). I did it because I support this site and all the hard work that goes into making it the best coaster related site on the internet bar none.

Kick The Sky, that was the funniest thing I've read on this site in ages.

Peabody's entirely right. I've been on 54 coasters. Does that mean I know more than someone who's been on fewer? I doubt it, it just means that I'm 24 with a lot of spare vacation time and more disposable income than your average 17 year old who maybe lives and breathes coasters, can quote stats from every coaster in the U.S., has taken Physics, but has been only to his home park. And frankly, there are people here with triple-digit records that I don't much care to listen to.

So just chill, man. If you think that anyone here really cares about your track record, or if you care what they think, you need to spend more time away from your computer.

Doesn't it seem as though morons always have the caps lock on?

first off, i have tried to make a site, but havent the slightest clue how. also, if i knew it was so expensive, i wouldnt have said anything about it in the first place(how much is a site like this anyway?). im not obsessed with how many coasters i have been on, and i dont go out and brag about it either. i guess its just a way for me to reflect in a way. im not saying...ooh, spend more money so i dont have to write!

mark...i dont spend as much time on the computer as you might think. i play baseball for my school, i study for my tests and do my homework. also, since my parents are getting divorced, i spend more time helping my mom out since my dad isnt there to take that responsibility.

it was mostly a question, i didnt mean to offend anybody in any way. please dont flame me for some curiosity.

Coasterdude,

I am not sure how much jeff spends on this site. but based on my experiance, I would assume that the time spent in programming and updating this site would translate into tens of thousands of dollars. (the average rate for a programmer in detroit is anywhere from $55 - $120 an hour).

Also, servers, routers and other gear are quite expensive. I think I heard jeff say once that he bought his own gear. I would guess he spent at least $10,000 on stuff.

Keeping a site with this many members also requires a lot of bandwith allocation. He is probably paying up near $2,000 a month for whatever kind of connection he is using for his servers.

I am not sure if this is correct, And in no way am I trying to speak for Jeff. This is just what I have observed relating to my experiance in this field.

***By the way, I have always been impressed with how fast the content on this site loads... Great work Jeff! I know it takes a lot of time to program a database application to be so efficient.

CB runs on the same server as GTTP. The box itself only cost about $700 to build, but consider the software and you're up into four-digit figures. Then you've got a Cisco router and a switch to buy. Then you've got an insanely fast connection right to Sprint's backbone that accounts for another four-digit figure monthly.

are you rich or something??? 10,000+ per month to keep a website?? whew....

guess those banners must pay a bit to keep.

It's not $10k a month, no. Connection alone is about $40/day. Then add in all of the hardware I had to buy.
