A prediction: Mean Streak gone within 5 years

I have my doubts about disaster transport leaving mine ride i doubt it too. i was at cedar point today and disaster transport had a line just as long as wicked twister it is still getting a good sized crown towards it...i enjoy mean streak i think it is a good woodie i expect a woodie to give me a few good jerks its the wooden way and i wouldnt have it any other way.
GCI twister on the beach sounds like a plan to me.
Coasterwizz, i know its a little late but i think he meant a "flying" or "floorless" coaster, not a combination of the two.

As for those saying MS "isn't going anywhere," i think you need to stop being enthusiasts and start thinking like guests. Guests don't enter the back of CP just because of the plain fact that they know Mean Streak is rough/crappy/not popular. Sure you get your new guests who want to try it out every once in a while, but other than that, the ride is not bringing the amount of attention that CP needs in the back of the park. I think its dumb to say that in 5 years it "most definitly is not going anywhere" because if Mean Streak continues to disinigrate as it has in the past 5, I don't see it surviving another 3. Even if they were to construct another woodie, of course it would cost $$$$, but we know the park is willing to do so. Another woodie to break some wood coaster records, would keep the fresh pine flowing back there, as well as the guests...although i don't know what they would replace it with, the possibilities are endless.

My guess? MS dismantled by Winter, 2007.

Dude... you're wrong. The park says that the ridership is still fairly strong. I've seen long lines on that ride even this year. The general public doesn't slam the ride like we do. The ride is physically maintained and isn't going to magically fall over. If they ever decide to ditch it, it will be because of the maintenance costs, not ridership or the "difficulty" to maintain it.

The GP thinks that if a coaster is rough that its part of the ride.

Take some time and listen to GP talk amongst themselves when your at a park, its all part of the experience to them.

The key is ridership, Jeff has it pegged exactly right - if Mean Streak's numbers stay constant or even decline slightly its probably not going anywhere. Its much easier to maintain it currently then to buy something else to replace it. If maintence costs rise dramatically due to unexpected circumstances then MS will shuffle off the the coaster lumberyard and they'll replace it.

Disaster Transport seems to be looking the wrecking ball directly in the eye currently, if they decide to demolish something to build something new. Don't know the ridership figures or the maintence costs, but I expect the ridership isn't stellar especially since its in a aluminum box that doesn't really encourage people to go ride.

Have Fun!

Last fall I was talking with a ride op at Kraken who used to work at CP (he brought up the subject due to my husband's Raptor t-shirt). He had heard that Mean Streak would be going bye-bye within 2-3 years, and an S&S woodie taking its place.
Really?! I thought The Beer Guy was the dude "in the know" at Anheuser-Busch parks, trumping even the all-knowing Lemon Chill Guy.

Every time I'm there it usually has a 15-30 minute wait. I don't know about anyone else but that big aluminum box screams air conditioning to me on hot summer days. That's why I always give it a whirl on the hotter days. But I usually skip it if it's a nice cool day.
