48 Hours in Ohio - PKI or GL?

Sure they can. Canada's own Paramount park is home to some unique, thrilling flats. :)

That said, I would hold off on PKI until IJ opens next year. PKI is the superior park, but GL's Dominator, Big Dipper, and Villain make that park a must visit. PKI will almost certainly be crowded because it's a long weekend, and GL just hasn't seen much action at the turnstiles this year. I love both parks, but with IJ debuting next year, why not hit two birds with one stone?

PKI! You have not lived till you have been on SOB!

And if you live w/o a concussion, internal injuries, torn rotator cuff, or a bulging disk after riding SoB that is a noteworthy accomplishment! ;)

I would take the extra drive and go to PKI. A night ride on the Beast is worth the trip by itself, and when you add the additional rides that PKI has you will be glad that you took the extra 1.5 hr. drive. Also, given that time of year, there is a better chance of good weather at PKI.

It's more like 2.5 hours more to PKI.

How fast do you drive? And please tell me when your making the trip so I can stay off the roads.
Is this really a question? PKI hands down!!

Thanks,
DMC

PKI is my home park, and I love it dearly, but the answer for me to this question isn't so easy. IMO, it depends on what your likes are. If you're all about a variety of different coaster experiences, (from wood and inverted to floorless and flyer), Geauga Lake is my fave between the two parks. But, if you're into the whole park experience, not just coasters, (but themeing, design, ect.), PKI wins hands down!
PKI is worth the Drive.

Guess who's back? Back Again? James K's back. Tell a friend.

without question, PKI would be the best choice! Geauga Lake isn't worth a special trip anymore, and it will be years before the park is respectable again.

CP a 2nd day?? It would be fun, but not likely. We've spent a couple days there previously, and both times we rode everything we wanted and left feeling that we didn't miss anything we couldn't find in our home parks. Mind you, they were both not high capacity days (a weekday in July 2000 and a cold Sunday in May 2002).

If you're a coaster lover who doesn't like spending 2+ hours waiting for MF or TTD, definitely go to CP in April, May, September, or October. (Just watch out for evenings in October -- all parks fill up when Halloween theming is in full swing.) Wish for cold weather -- you rule the parks when the temperature is less than 15C / 60F.

If Columbus Day is a holiday, how come none of the Ohio theme parks are open? Does everyone get the day off or just students?
I rode SOB 5 times, And I made it just fine. But I also took a ride on Manhattan Express in Las vegas, and lived through it too. Im built of steel

Why not consider Kennywood. It really is not to much further than GL. And closer than PKI to CP. If you havent been there it is truly in a class all it's own. But between PKI and GL, I would pick PKI. Even the GL is closer.

PKI - without a doubt. The Beast, Face Off, Racer backwards, Flight of Fear, Delirium, all winners - need I say more? Heck even Top Gun and Vortex are decent coasters. No question PKI has more going for it right now.
I'd say GL for this reason alone: you're going to need the 2nd day at CP to hit everything. CP on a Saturday during Halloweekends is extremely crowded - as much or worse than mid-summer. But, if you go back on Sunday, the park will be dead and you can finish off or even do the entire park over again in just a couple of hours. Then, hop in the car and make the drive to GL. GL can be "done" in about 75 minutes if you walk briskly between rides ;). At normal speed, you'd probably still only need about 2 or 2 1/2 hours, and it really is a fun park, has some great, unique rides which are a whole different experience than CP. Together, the two parks kind of cover the whole spectrum of coaster-dom.

There are some people on here that are just very in to being jaded about Geauga Lake since Sea World closed (a lot like swearing off Disney because Universal closed ... )

Enjoy!

Was'nt GL at one time a Six Flags park?

I remember they had a "Wild Rides" and "Wild Side" section... or am I thinking of a different park?

Not again ...
I WAS RIGHT!!! Worlds of Adventure. Now a Cedar Fair park? And for some reason re-named it to somthing I can't even pronounce.

P.S) Dont worry Impulse-ive... I am not going to use up my 10 post limit today. I take it thats what "Not Again..." means.
