400ft. coaster.....in the U.S.?

I've heard that the tallest rollercoaster in the wrold was going to be in the U.S. What park would be perfect for it and where would it go in it?

Oooh ... does this mean I get to revive my idea for the coaster that goes from Pittsburgh to Lousiana following the Ohio/Mississippi too? 2000 ft., 250 mph, and 90 inversions ... YEA baby!!

But yea, talk about beating a dead horse ...

Boblo Island could use it... No one goes to Boblo anymore!

I miss that place.

Oh PLEASE let us use 'Playa's idea...

Why do you have to have a license to own a dog, but not to have a child?

If you have keen ears, trust rumors, and take an educated guess....

Then next year Cedar Point is rumored to be breaking the world coaster height record with an air-launched coaster that is *supposedly* in that neighborhood.

The Tallest roller coaster in the world is already in the US of A... Superman The Escape. That's according to Guiness though.

I think putting it in the mountains in Montana would be a great location. You can (legally) do 100 mph (ok 75 - still faster than Maggie ... but we're back to 100! Faster than Millie! )on the road to get there, the crowds would be minimal since it would be snowing most of the year and the support structures would be minimal cause you could build it off the side of the mountain. Any takers?

You can't drive 100mph legally in Montana. They were forced to set a limit a few years back. (Think it's 75?)

Then we need to specify continuous circuit coaster, don't we?

Dorney Park visits in 2002: 15

Joe,

Boblo Island has been turned into a condo/townhouse developement. There are no more coasters there.

Mark, what idea is that? I've been outta the loop. Oh man, not another pun! I've been very punny tonight.
All I have heard, is a while back Werner Stengel announced a 400ft coaster is being built in the US, thats all that was said. So I guess some park might be getting a 400ft coaster for next year.

I think we have quite a ways to go before we see a 400ft. complete circuit coaster. We have already seen Superman tha Escape which is 400ft tall. I think it will be a good 7 to 8 years before we see one. It took them 10 years to go from Magnum to MF. I think we will gradually see coasters go taller than MF and Steel Dragon and eventually, we may get to 400ft. But there are some big problems with parks building them, they need space and money. And a lot of the parks that have space and money already have a tall hugh thrill machine. Not all of hte parks, but a lot...

I'm sticking with my theory that it would take a MUCH faster launch to get you up a 400' hill......S:TE goes nowhere near the top of the tower in my experience, and my "guess" is that it'd take an extra 40-50 mph to get you up there....it *seems* that might be an uncomfortably fast launch.......now, if you started above ground level....;)
Yea but thats a different launch system altogether. I will go along by saying that it is a definate rumore that CP will get a hydralically launched Intamin Rocket coaster with a 400ft. tophat while reaching speeds of up to 120 mph. That seems to be what everyone thinks. I doubt it though. Not for another couple years...;)

Call me SpongeBobAlex.

We only have 2 giga coasters and you expect them to build 100 feet higher. Face it people, it's not going to happen next year. Or at least it can't be full circuit.

I wonder what they would call a 400 foot coaster?

Lankster, my 2001 Rand-McNally atlas says the speed limit in Montana is whatever is "prudent." I don't think anyone can "force" a state to set a lower speed limit.

Ok can someone please get the real speed limit for Montana so I can quit editing my original post! :)

MWB, you seem to have taken over the role of distributing the "award" whenever necessary - rock on! :)

SFNE Dude, 400 feet will be known as the terra coaster, as mentioned many times before.
