4-7-04 New Storm Runner Pics including Trains!

Since I have been busy a lot of work has been continuing on Storm Runner. The pull through has been completed, and they should start testing anytime. The trains look amazing.

They have completed alot of concrete work, and the quene is starting to take shape. At this point it is hard to tell if they are going to make the opening day for Storm Runner. As long as the weather doesn't get too bad they should be able to make it.

They are constructing a path behind Sidewinder to connect to the path behind the rapids. That only make sense since this area of the park is going to be packed now.

As soon as they start testing I will be taking video of the runs, and that will be posted at www.xtremecoasters.com My pictures will also be moving over to there.

Those of you that have already checked out previous condtruction updates know the drill. http://www.dotphoto.com/Gallery.asp?Cat=47

The new pics are in the Storm Runner gallery on the 2nd page. Enjoy!

Is it just me who might have gotten spoiled by the Xcelerator and Dragster train design? I was expecting another cool train design with Storm Runner. Nothing fancy, just something different. Those trains, as they are currently, are very ugly. lol. Maybe they'll put a logo or something else on them to help them out. *** Edited 4/7/2004 4:07:34 PM UTC by Rampage***

I'm sure a logo is coming, Rampage.
Me to Moosh. Seems only reasonable to have a logo there, it is big enough for it. The seats/restraints kinda favor the new "sideless" seats from Vekoma only with a much more tailored design.

The also have the OTSR's which really don't look right on unthemed Intamin trains...

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

No stadium seating? And are those wispy-looking restraints actually soft, like on S:UF? I'll trade soft for fugly.

Thanks for the update!

Anyone who gets to go there and ride this, I envy you.... :)

Yes the trains have Stadium seating. To me the trains look like a cross between hyper/giga trains and TTD's trains with OTSR. I like the colors. I just can't wait to ride.

They look like the hyper coaster trains in NoLimits with OTSRs is what they look like.

Those restraints looks much thinner on the upper part...

The top of the head rest also extend further above the pivot point of the OTSR by about 6" and is concave to gently cradel the back of the head eliminating the need for those ugly head rests they added to Xcelerator after it opened (http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery1574.htm?Picture=10), or the head rests that were on TTD since it opened (http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery1896.htm?Picture=52). By the way, the reason they are there is to prevent whiplash on the neck during the launch. *** Edited 4/7/2004 5:42:16 PM UTC by Coaster Lover***

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

AH, the headrests are the same as used on Intamins newer loopers...
About the new restraints, after looking more into them I think they're bassicly like lapbars that comes down from above like an OTSRs. The lower part of the restraints looks almost exactly like those used on mega coaster trains.
I'm glad I live in jersey, I can't wait to ride this....is it me or do these OTSR's actually look like they'll be somewhat comfortable...

Looks good to me. What exactly is ugly about these trains? The fact that they look different? The horror.

Ah... I see the stadium seating now. It's less obvious because the car bodies don't angle downward like they do on most other Intamins. And I guess that's what seems "ugly" to me. I'm reminded of the Windjammer trains. But "ugly" is relative... I'm just comparing it to the other heavily-themed rocket coasters.

I'm no snob! *** Edited 4/7/2004 7:53:15 PM UTC by Olsor***

Same here Olsor. I'm making my judgement on the other heavily-themed rocket trains. I thought for sure there would be some kinda horse head mounted on the front. Guess that's just a "Cedar Fair" thing.

That would look hella scary rampage :) As I recall, the only themed ride (as far as trains go) at Hershey is Trailblazer! So this is not at all a surprise to me.

Fate is the path of least resistance.

I guess I'm getting my "ride themes of Cedar Fair" and the "area themes of Paramount and Six Flags" crossed up. I got spoiled on every rocket coaster so far having themed trains. Oh well, the ride is still gonna be an excellent addition to HersheyPark no doubt.

I was thinking the same thing. Trains look good. Its true that everybody was spoiled by the overtheming done by CF.
