2003 Ride Announcements

Amusement Business is the leading publication for the amusement industry and to say that they would send outright lies is obserb.

A Sale of a ride has been reported to Amusement Business, which I have no doubt is correct, HOWEVER, the park has NOT made an announcement regarding this ride and therefore the original post is incorrect in stating the below.

( I just wanted to update on a few unmentioned anouncements: Six Flags Astroworld and Six Flags America -Whitewater West Spinning Rapids ride *This is a dry attraction and will not be apart of the water park)

Please understand that SFA has in NO WAY sent out a press release, or media announcement about the installation of this ride. therefore this ride installation is NOT ANNOUNCED YET, only the sale is a done deal at this time. SFA hasn't submitted, nor received approval for the installation of this ride, so once again, the ride is sold to SFA , and rumored to be installed this year, but there has been NO ANNOUNCEMENT.........

An announcement by definition is:

-The act of making known publicly

(Six Flags Inc. send it to a publishing)

-a statement about something that is happening or going to happen

(the announcement of a 2003 ride submitted by the company)

-The act of announcing, or giving notice; that which announces; proclamation; publication

(They announced and publicized it)

Who cares how Six Flags made us aware of their 2003 rides, the fact is that we know what new rides are coming to the Six Flags parks this year.

Vertigo, if you're going to rip off Amusement Business's material, at least credit them in your original post. It's low to post it as if it was your own information.

It isn't all Amusement Business material, I already stated that this a recap of all recent annuncements. The only release that would contain nearly all of these ride announcements would be Amusement Business, which you must be a member to view.

This come from many different sources, mainly official park websites and manufactuer websites.

I *would* try (again, that is) but the stupid antlers keep tearing up my esophagus....;). I'd *cough up* even more if people would stop trying to PLAY mod...;)

So where'd you get the info on the Whitewater West rides and the S&S Sky Slings (particularly Frontier City)? AB is the only place I've seen that.

-Nate

The Topspin actually sat to the right of Joker's Jinx, not behind it. If anyone has either the America's Greatest video or DVD, you can see the parts. It wasn't until I came back from Great Adventure that I figured out what it was. The themeing (fake wood) was identical. If you want to find out when the new ride is officially announced, get on the email list with the Prince Georges County Planning Board like I did.

Huss's Land of the Giants—coming somewhere, sometime soon.

I have that video & I watched it just a few days ago but didn't see anything in the POV shots on JJ showing any ride parts in the area to the right side of the coaster,I did see parts to something near the brakerun though along with some construction equipment.

Of course that video footage was shot just after the circus show had been set up in the maintenance yard next to JJ's brakerun,I guess I'll have to pay extra attention to it the next time I watch it.

As far as permits for SFA go they havn't applied for permits yet which is why there's no announcement of their ride at this time but PG county updates thier website every thursday & I expect that something will come up before the end of the month, perhaps they are trying to keep it as much of a secret as possible after everyone found out about Batwing before it was announced & approval may have already been given last January when they applied for approval to expand on 118 acres of land.

funny, but the only place this is mentioned is by the manufacturer. No six flags acknowledgement has been made, and the only mention of it is in a trade publication.

A TRADE PUBLICATION

Not a newspaper, not a press release, a trade publication.

I'm not doubting your facts about the ride being bought, but the terms you use make it sound like it's already been marketed, and named.

The truth being, the ride may be purchased, but the intent in mentioning the sale in AB was to promote Whitewater West, not Six Flags.

Does it really matter? Cedar Point (my current employer) has built their 420 ft, 120 mph monster, Top Thrill Dragster. They have once again raised the bar in the Amusement Park Industry with their record breaking rides. I'm a lowly games employee but I get to see them all day everyday, and I love it!
what exactly is an S&S Sky Sling?

-----------------

That spinning rapids ride doesn't look too interesting - way too similar to the other rapids ride they have as well. Wish they would have opted for a coaster instead

Sky Sling is basically the modified Absolutely insane ride (AKA vertigo at Cedar Point and knotts). Its like a slingshot to the sky, and the seats rotate however you pick them. Kind of like a 4D tower ride, but not. Read here: http://screamscape.com/html/s_s_power.html

2nd to last ride.

I'm hearing that SFAW will announce not one but two new attractions for this year& that the announcement is set for sometime in late january to early february.

Now if SFAW is getting two attractions, the spinning rapids ride & most likely some sort of flat then perhaps the same holds true for SFA as well.

Taken from the SFAW site.

"Six Flags AstroWorld will celebrate its 35th Anniversary with not one but TWO all-new thrill rides. Stay tuned for details coming February 6. Six Flags AstroWorld's season grand opening is Saturday, March 8."

Yeah I just looked at both SFAW's & SFA's homepages & it does say that SFAW is getting 2 new rides for this season which will be announced in early february.

SFA's hompage still hasn't been updated yet but I'm sure they will post something about it within the next couple of weeks.

Well, word has it (this is in no way confirmed directly by any official source) that Jack Falfas has CONFIRMED (during an Xcelerator breakdown to a ACN moderator, someone you can trust, The Phantom lives) that Knotts will be getting a ( most likely giant) huss ride to replace Tampico Tumbler and Grandslammer, with Grandslammer being sent to the junkyard and Tampico Tumbler to be relocated in the park, for 2003. I can't link you to the thread because the America Coasters forums are down and or deleted. Maybe Josh posts here.........

Good thing they are keeping the Tampico Tumbler, that ride's awesome.

Now I see on the summary page at Amusement Business a couple articles which indicate Six Flags has bought three of these spinning rapids rides, but did the text of the article actually indicate which parks they were going into?

Spinning rapids rides will be going into SFAW and SFA (confirmed by Amusement Business). I'm unaware of a fourth attraction being purchased by Six Flags, as there was no mention of a third park getting a Whitewater West attraction in the AB listing.

It's been rumored for awhile that a flat ride will replace Slammer. The ride has been closed for a few weeks now.
