2002 Golden Ticket Awards, Predictions?

I have to agree with X, Nitro is soooo overrated. Don't forget about Raptor either, that dropped to 5 last year, but should stay in the top ten. I wish Thunderbolt at Kennywood would get up to 1 like it did a few years ago. It seems like the most underrated coaster I've ridden.

I belive the Best Food should go to a Six Flags with a Mickey D's in it. LMAO

Friendiest Park Award should most defently go to SFWoA.

I disagree with you about SFWoA having best capcity. I belive that awards should go to SFKK.

I disagree with you on Best Water Ride. I belive that award should go to WOF's Viking Voyager, hey it even has a dry slide on it.

I kinda agree with you on everything else.

Whoa I'm the 88984594th Vistor to Coasterbuzz. I wonder what I have won.

Do you have to be a subscriber to that magazine (Amusement Business or Amusement Today) to vote?

This year's awards are being held at a certain favorite park of mine... and I'll be there ;-)

In the woodie category Timbers will finally topple Raven for the # 1 spot! I'd say Cornball will be somewhere in the top 10 (hopefully top 5, if not it’s a crime), The Legend will gain another position or two.

For Steel I'd say The Force will lose it's title and Phantom's Revenge will keep moving towards the upper echelon.

I can say with 99.9 certainty that you do have to be a subscriber.

I hope Kraken makes a big jump. It's very underrated. I also think BGW will do well.

and I can say with 100% certainty that you don't, since I voted and I'm not a subscriber...

AT gives out surveys to enthusiasts who are well-travelled, not necessarily those who get the mag (since it's an industry magazine, not an enthusiast one anyway...)

They also limit the number of people from each area of the country to try and balance opinions out and keep "fanboys" to a minimum.

Sorry but we all know that Cedar Point will win and deserves best park award.

S:RoS ( SFNE ) is the most deserving coaster of number 1. Anyone who has ridden it knows that too!

SFNE

Canobie Lake Park

Lake Compounce

S:RoS ( SFNE ) rules!

Weren't these awards announced earlier last year? Like July or so? I remember being at CP and being told by several people that we were no longer number one. This is when we had to add all sorts of things to our spiels such as "according to NAPHA" and "burn your copy of Amusement Today!" ;) I believe MF will retain the top spot and believe it or not, Superman at SFNE might drop, not because it is a bad ride, but because it is at a piss poor park and the people who vote were most likely pissed off by one thing or another by the time they left anyway! :)

Yes, last year the Golden Ticket Awards were announced on July 31 at Holiday World.

I think PKI will get best Children's area again. It's just a feeling especially since the won last year.

Giving the voters a little more time to see the park season play out will only help Holiday World and Cedar Point while hurting Six Flags.

Either way, if you look at last year's results, there weren't many tight races in most of the categories. I think the voters like to show some form of consensus, which is why -- bold prediction here -- that Holiday World will not only win the clean and friendly awards, but do so by an even wider margin. The same goes for Cedar's capacity award.

The voters also cling to the traditional indie parks the way a movie reviewer loves the obscure film noir. I mean, I love you Knoebel's but as ambitious as the Haunted House is on a shoestring budget it is NOT the second best dark ride in the country. Okay, any brass ring park deserves the carousel award so you can keep that one, but while the food value truly rocks and perogies, blue birch beer and taters are tasty, grab a meal at Mythos, Confisco's or Oak Tree Tavern at IOA and then let's hand out the food award.

I think that X is definantly gonna be up there somewhere on the top steel list, with Millennium Force close behind, or ahead. Here are my predictions -

#1 Steel - Millennium Force or X - Millennium Force is just screaming greatness and X I've heard is a lot of fun.

#1 Woodie - Shivering Timbers - Duh

#1 Park - Cedar Point - Duh again

I don't know what the other catagories are, but those are my guesses for those categories.

I don't think the longer deadline will help CP at all...enthusiasts in general aren't Six Flags fans, I don't think another month will sway them more in either direction.

I think some results may surprise people this year, there's a lot of new blood in the awards because, again, the majority of the 200+ people who went on the ACE Euro Odyssey voted this year. You're likely going to see a lot of Euro rides and attractions finishing higher than expected.

More importantly, not just the best dark ride in the country, the best dark ride *in the world*.

AT is supposed to represent the whole industry, it's just that getting people who've travelled to Europe is much more difficult than finding people who've travelled around the States and Canada.

I still expect Knoebel's Haunted Mansion to win the best dark ride, but look for stuff something Fata Morgana or Droomvlucht from Efteling to sneak in below it.

I think Knoebel's just touches something inside people who like traditional parks...I'd take cheese on a stick and an order of perogies over *any* fancy park food, because the perogies mean I've got to be in Elysburg :-)

And it's more than that, I think it's just a matter of taste...you might be a fan of fancy meals at IOA, me? I'd take a pasty with cheese curds and gravy on it over *any* fancy stuff 9 times out of 10.

It's all just a matter of taste...

#1 Woodie: The Legend @ HW
#1 Steelie: Eurosat @ Europa
