2001 Internet Wooden Coaster Poll results published

Tonnerre de Zeus edged Shivering Timbers for the top spot this year, claiming the title of top wooden coaster for an unprecedented third consecutive year. Shivering Timbers shares Tonnerre de Zeus' lofty status as having never finished lower than second in this poll, and the Michigan ride gained considerably this year, leading for almost the entire month and losing the head to head comparison by a single vote after a very clearcut victory by the French ride in 2000.

Would this be better at the top of the instructions?

It looks messy here but is very easy to follow on the ballot which is a straight text file.

Don't the pre /pre html tags work here?

In past years there have been a few people who have found the
instructions difficult, so I have added the following visual example
of the voting process.

Ballot before:

Marked all you have ever ridden 'y'-------- ----Marked all ridden this year 'y'

Note that all coasters never ridden have been deleted, you added your
e-mail address to the first line, rated favorite coaster as '1' etc.,
rated My Favorite Steel as if it were your favorite steel coaster but did
NOT change the name, and first and last lines remain untouched.

Then e-mail to wcoasterpoll@yahoo.com

Im surprised Texas Cyclone did so well. It is probably because of the new trains. I love the coaster, and it is a good thing other people do also. What did it get last year?
I about cried when I found out. Those of you who talk to me online frequently know that poll was my pride and joy. *Sigh*, for a month we lead....I just KNEW that last batch would prove fatal. Anyway, great poll and next year WE WILL TAKE IT, that is a promise;).
Anyone who has ridden Tonnerre de Zeus, what is so good about it?  Where can I get the stats, they are not on RCDB.
Glad to see the gem down in New Orleans, MegaZeph placed very well...  :o)

But I too was extremely disappointed to see where the Beast finished up.

-----------------
I rode "X" and never went upside down.

If you look at The Beast's head-to-head comparisons in the spreadsheet, you could probably make a pretty good argument that The Beast may be underrated by 5-10 spots in the poll.

It is preferred to 10 of the 13 rides immediately above it but that is canceled out by losses and ties to quite a number of less ridden rides ranked below it.

The highest ranked coaster that The Beast was preferred to head-to-head was the Kennywood Thunderbolt at #50.  The U.S. coasters near The Beast in the rankings average around 3 coasters they have h2h wins against ranked above them. If that were the case for The Beast it would rank around #57 rather than the current rank of #68.

However, in making that argument you would be discounting the opinions of some of the people who ranked Beast below coasters that are ranked below it in the rankings. *** This post was edited by Mitch Hawker on 12/6/2001. ***

Re:West Coast Grizzly

Actually, if you look at the numbers closely you will find that it was not rated last on every ballot.

In fact, 2 of 44 said they preferred it to Boulder Dash, 1 of 45 preferred it to The Legend, and 1 of 65 to GhostRider.

There really is no accounting for taste. (or ballot errors?)
