2001 Internet Wooden Coaster Poll results published

Tonnerre de Zeus edged Shivering Timbers for the top spot this year, claiming the title of top wooden coaster for an unprecedented third consecutive year. Shivering Timbers shares Tonnerre de Zeus' lofty status as having never finished lower than second in this poll, and the Michigan ride gained considerably this year, leading for almost the entire month and losing the head to head comparison by a single vote after a very clearcut victory by the French ride in 2000.

Hey, that's cool that a european woodie wins something over the american woodies. No surprise that it's a CCI though. But Shivering Timbers and Tonnerre de Zeus has been fighting about the 1st and 2nd place for the last 4 years. I have to ride those woodies sometime. :)

Too bad I had a hard time figuring out how to post the darned votes. I would have voted for Shivering Timbers.

I was happy to see the PNE/Playland Coaster in the #12 spot. This is my #1coaster.Maybe the PNE officials will reconsider taking Coaster with them instead of demolishing it when the park has to move.
Interesting results, personally i would take the raven over shivering timbers without hesitation, but thats just one man's opinion.
Make that two men's opinions. But I'm glad Tremors faired as well as it did.  It's an amazing coaster that I wish more people could get to and ride. I'm also shocked at the low showing of The Beast.

Or, according to the poll, just 22 out of 90 people's opinion that Raven is better than Shivering Timbers :)

Thank You to the Coasterbuzz community for helping to bring almost 20% more voters to the poll this year than last.

Mitch, if I ever figure out how to vote on that poll, I WILL.  Interesting to note that I've ridden NONE of the top five...bummer.  After traveling all over the country the past few years, I've ridden LOTS of coasters and mets lots of great folks.  I like the breakdown for the "middle-aged" coasters, but I was wondering if in the future we could add a "MID-SIZED" category.  Raven would win hands-down IMO...but I haven't been to IB, YET!  On a side note, I really enjoyed Cheetah and though it was THE perfect addition to W.A., but its ranking is, to put it politely, inflated...

What's up with SOB?  That's a LOW rank!

WARNING: May be habit forming
I was also very disappointed with Son of Beast.  I have ridden a plethora of good woodies, including 4 CCI's, and SOB is my #1.
gator,

If you can copy, paste, edit, and e-mail you should be good to go.  Seriously, where do you run into trouble as I will try to do what I can, within reason, to make it easier.

All I can say is that most of the people who took the poll (did you participate?) (this year and last) do not like SoB.  There are a few who do as 3 out of 70 people preferred it to Shivering Timbers.
All i have to say about SoB is :( I'm very dissapointed. I don't have a favorite wooden coaster. I have 4 favorites. SoB, The Beast, Raven and Legend. I'm dissapointed but life goes on it's just a silly vote. Everyone has their own favorites!

It's his turn to feast, when you ride the Son of Beast.
I would have voted as well if there was some sort of user-friendly way, like a form to fill out similar to an ID form when getting a new E-mail. But that may just be the lazy side in me. :)

Mayday - Memorial Day Weekend - Nonpoint, Nickelback, Oleander, Staind
Ozzfest - June 8 - Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Black Sabbath
Awake Tour- June 15 - Darwin's Waiting Room, Puddle of Mudd, Deftones, Godsmack

In the top 15, Indiana has 3 coasters! All CCI too, of course...

Legend - 7
Raven - 10
Cornball Express - 15

I'm very proud of Cornball Express for placing so high...goes to show you, all that crap about the name...and look where it ends up in the top 164!  :)

For those who rode them this year, SOB and The Beast did a lot better than the regular poll as they were ranked 84 and 28. More people(16) also rated Beast as their number one coaster than Boulder Dash, Raven, Rampage, and Tournerre de Zeus. Son of Beast was rated #1 coaster by 2 people.
I, too, was overwhelmed by voting procedures...at first.  There's really nothing to it.  He provides the formatted list.  all you do is copy and paste, delete those you have not ridden and rank away (1 is highest, 2 is 2nd highest, etc).

I hear he will bring back the steel poll.  This will actually be much more confusing to vote, considering the number of clones, productions, and similarity of many rides which will make the results a little less valid.

So let's ride 'em like they ride on the Discovery Channel"

How bad is Grizzly? If you check out the numbers closely, every single person that rode it had it ranked as the worst wooden coaster they had ever ridden. Usually you can find something nice to say about a coaster, or someone will rank it 2nd-to-last just for nostalgia purposes, but this must really be a dog.

As far as the rankings of the rest, I was shocked to see the Beast so low (only 2 spots above the Hurler?!?, and 2 below CP's Blue Streak?!?). I'm certainly not it's biggest fan, but it deserves more respect than that.

Speaking as a major IB fan, the fact that Cornball Express came in at 15, at a park that doesn't get that much attention, speaks to the greatness of CCI's (and IB's) achievement.  After all, it's a little ride.  At a traditional park hardly anybody goes to.  (Meaning, compared to the big corporate themers.)  And yet, the ride is just so great that it deserves this level of recognition.  And more.

Next year, if you possibly can, get to Indiana Beach (of course, by that time, Cornball will only be the 2nd newest CCI at IB ... what a fantastic park).

I'm really not surprised at Cornball's ranking at all, as it fits a pattern for great rides at small parks.  Using Rampage, Tremors, Megaphobia, and Tonnerre de Zeus (all with fewer than 100 voters) as models and the comparative nature of the poll, it was quite easy to predict that it would rank that high.  I actually thought it would go higher, based on my opinion of the ride compared to those ranking above it.  At any rate, it's a great success for the park, and hopefully some more people will get out there next year.
