10 Inversion Colossus thought

This quote from John Wardley, at last years ECC General meeting, may help people 'understand' the coaster more. I have made bold, the part, that I recommend needs looking at the closest
"For convenience in any press release it is being referred to as a 10 looper, however they are not all loops, the inversions are as follows, a vertical loop, a cobra roll making two inversions, a pair of barrel rolls, 4 inline twists in a row and finally a final inline twist in the opposite direction into the brakes. The ride needed a unique selling point, we know entertainment isn't always about braking records, but we needed to put out a clear message that Thorpe Park was changing. There was a height problem, we could only go 30 metres above the ground, which is nothing in the world of roller coasters. We knew that Intamin could do 8 inversions with a 30 metre lift hill, with the ride in Rio, which is a very efficient ride. We thought there may have been the opportunity to add two more energy efficient inversions., after some double thinking we decided to approach Intamin and ask if they could put 2 more inversions in the ride. The ride is partly underground, with a tunnel before and after the cobra roll, this obviously was very expensive, mainly because Thorpe is on a gravel pit. It will have magnetic induction brakes, which when you ride them you will find are fabulous."

Since when is bigger better?  Granted, loopier may not be better either, but it is Intimin, and the theming is going to be great, and no one has ridden it yet.  I would say that the odds are in favor of the ride at this point.

And do enthusaists really have a lower chance of getting sick then a non enthusiast?  Its not like we're super human or anything....

If you really want to get a feel for it, check out my recreation over at CoasterSims.com.  I believe it's called "Thorpe Parks Collossus", and as always, I go under the same alias as I do here ;)

I'd Rather Be Riding Roller Coasters

We aren't supper human but we're more tolerant. When I go to parks with my regular friends they can't stand just riding coasters with out getting sick. So we have to ride other rides. But when you go to an ACE event people ride constantly for hours. Those are my kind of people ;)

I don't know if we are really more tolerant, its just that if we were tolerant.....we wouldn't be enthusiasts.  I dunno, i really don't think that people getting sick will really be that big an issue.  I honestly, in my 18 years, have never seen or encountered more than a few people that have gotten sick from a ride....

I personally don't think the number of inversions has much to do with the likelihood of you feeling sick.  I think it's more to do with how fast you go round them, and possibly fast direction changes.

The only ride that has ever made me feel queasy is the 4-inversion Nemesis, and I've been on rides with more inversions than that, plus I am not affected by the "notorious" spin n spews like Frisbees.

I think 4 or 5 rolls in a row would be pretty cool, it would give you and out of control like feel and be very disorienting.

Honestly since when does being a larger ride make something automatically better? If they could put ten inversions onto 400 feet of track (mega-looping wacky worm?) I'd ride. Not that inversions are necessarily a great thing, but what exactly does size get you in a looper besides bragging rights?

Personally I think 5 rolls in succession is brilliant, just for the pure insanity of the thing.

It probably is a cheap way to get into the record books, but isn't that what it is all about?  Every park wants the claim to fame.  This ride could be pretty cool, especially because of that airtime hill after the first loop.

And WOW, was it a great idea, the publicity stunt really has worked hasn't it!!

Take a look at that picture and tell me its not the coolest thing you have ever seen.

Exactly, sfmmman2001!  With the inline twists, they had to be indulgent.  I know they just added inlines because those elements need the least energy to get through, and would thus be the easiest way to get a record-breaker, but one by itself (or even three) just wouldn't give you the same effect as zooming down that extended, heartline section.  It's really an element in itself.

This ride will be amazing. It will be the only mega looper in Britain, it has tunnels, great themeing, it travels over water, and 10 inversions- what more could you want. Thorpe park has a height restriction of 100 feet so it can't really be any taller or longer as it would run out of speed.

The ride is a statement to the world that Thorpe park is a park to watch out for as it is going places. It got three new flat rides last year, a shoot the chute the year before, and a B&M inverted is being built for next year (ground prep. is already underway). Thorpe park is going to be huge!!

Stop giving Collossus grief, before you have experienced it.

Considering the way V:TBC handles the barrel rolls SO smoothly, I think the extended sequence will be really fun.  Gotta agree that if this thing was in the States, people wouldn't be calling it "gimmicky"...

GregLeg (and colin and the other Euro-coasters), we want ride reviews!!!

I think it's going to be great!

That said, I think it's awesome how fast construction goes over in Europe. Thorpe has already started on their "new for 2003" Inverted!
