10 Inversion Colossus thought

A new 10 inversion coaster is being built now at Thorpe Park in England (as many of you probably already know).  The stats nor the layout look very impressive.  It seems that the only reason this coaster is being built is because it has 10 inversions and will bring some publicity to the park.  The length of the coaster is not very long at only 2788 feet and the speed is pretty slow at only 45mph.  It seems that they are not even bothering to make it a big coaster, just one with a lot of inversions.  Some people may feel that this will be a good coaster, but I think its a cheap attempt to get into the records book.  Any comments?

Zimm

It's the same thing as Monte Makaya only with 2 extra barrel rolls and without the ending helix.  It's an Intamin, so of course it's gonna be great!

There are way too many barrel rolls.

I agree.  It has something like 5 straight barrel rolls in 1 straight piece of track.  Is that supposed to be fun????  I can't see how that is fun.  Its just (probably) the cheapest way to make an inversion (compared to vertical loops and all the B&M inversions), so they decided to put a lot in.

I dunno, it looks pretty insane to me.  Don't judge it until you ride it.

Can someone post a link to the layout?

If it was on American soil you would be singing its praises. Like Den said, dont judge something you havent ridden.

If you go to http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery1412.htm, there are 4 images which shows the layout.

Here is another link with pics.

I think i've seen this topic too many times, Colossus breaks a record and it's cheap, does that matter?? You don't really need to ride it, and there's too many opinions of something that no one hasn't ridden yet...

It's all about buisness, the parks want some more peoples to visit the parks and record breakers draws some, and that's why they builds them. And if it doesn't costs too much, that's even better! For the park.

And i don't really think the GP cares if it's a clone or not b/c they doesn't know a 8 looper exists in Brazil somewhere.

BTW my opinion of Colossus is, i don't have any... yet. I need to ride it first.

I always wondered what 3 vertical loops or 3 barrel rolls in a row would be like... this is going to have 5?

I don't understand why everyone seems down on this ride, it looks like it is going to be absolutely nuts!

And it's 4 rolls in a row.
No, I think it's 5 rolls in a row.... plus cobra roll, vertical loop and two corkscrews.

4 rolls, a turn then the 5th
The GP outside of the Thorpe Park zone probably doesn't know about either coaster, and therefore has no way of knowing or caring that it's almost a clone.  The Thorpe Park GP will just be floored about it, with no knowledge of Monte Makaya and similarly, the Terra Encantada GP won't know about Colossus, and will still believe that they've got the coaster with the most inversions in the world.  All will be happy.  I'm rambling now, hopefully that made sense.  Also, I won't judge it till I ride it.

they looks pretty sick, but it may make some non coaster enthusiasts pretty sick, I'd ride it!!!!!

NNNoooooo... Noooooooo... it cant be... it cant be... The Rides OVER!!!!!!!!!!!
It probably will make some people sick, but then, I've seen ferris wheels make people sick.
IMHO this coaster will be awsome! 10 rapid fire inversions in a compact layout.  It will be one of the most intense coasters on the planet!

You might not think Colossus is big, but it is compared to anything Thorpe Park has had before.  They needed to send out a very clear message that the park is changing, so they built this.

The ride is not just inversions.  It has interesting non-inversion elements too, such as a very low bunny-hop and a sharp, rising turn.  I think it's going to be much better than people expect.

Best place for information on this coaster is Thorpe Park Guide: http://www.thorpeparkguide.com

Anyway, Thorpe Park has already started the groundwork for the seemingly non-gimmicky 2003 B&M Inverted coaster, so maybe that'll be more to your taste!

Personally, I'm looking forward to trying Colossus out this coming summer.  Sure, the 10 inversions may be a bit of overkill, but what the heck, at least it's unique...
