whenever I download a trianer and click on the icon, my media player pops up and says that it can't open this file. does anyone know how to fix this or what to do after this.

Try right clicking on it and choose open with _____ whatever the trainer is. What trainer is it doing it on?

Depending what version of the game you have, a trainer will not work until you install the Drexler patch.

I already have the Drexler patch installed. Also, the icon is the icon for the movie player rather than the regular icon which is the windows symbol on a sheet of paper. This is all happening on the dragonsIOA trainer v.6 beta 2.

Either your opening the wrong file, or your copy of the trainer is corrupted.

I got it from the dragonsIOA site.

Make sure you are opening rcttrainer.exe. If you are not running this, you are running the wrong file. Make sure it ends in exe, or it is not a program. Be sure you are not opening trainer.dll or any other file. If you are running the exe, and media player pops up, your computer is really mucked up.
