SFNE Cyclone: repeat after me, "BRILLIANT"

WOW, what a reprofiling job they did, this ride is absolutely AMAZING now!!!!!!!!

I never rode the Morgan trains, but I did ride is last year and honestly did not like it. It was waaaay too "violently intense." I appreciated its old school style, but it was not fun or re-rideable by any means. The train would skip along the track as if someone was snapping a whip, you'd be getting slammed backwards into the seat. It felt like a kick in the groin and then backhand to the face, before you knew what hit you. So I was all for a reprofiling.

Now, they shortened the first drop and overbanked the turn. It is all NEW wood. They didn't even tear down the original drop, just built over it (it looks kinda cool as well). The first drop and turnaround FEELS (and essentially IS) a brand new ride. The drop still ejects you out of the seat like no other ride does on the drop, but it is smooth. Somehow this also improves the rest of the ride, as it makes every other element smoother and enjoyable. This baby has 4-5 amazing moments of bona-fide, scare the crap out of ya, "ejector air".

My first ride was in the front row, and I enjoyed it immensely. I could see how some of the "hardcore enthusiasts" would be saying the ride is slower and less intense, but I still thought it was an improvement.

THEN I went for the back seat and could not believe it. I was shocked beyond belief and simply blown away at how smooth and enjoyable the whole ride had become, but was still an absolute MONSTER with the air and laterals. I can't see how anyone would not like what they did to this ride!!!!!!

After pulling into the station, it was one of the few coasters that I thought, "I have to get back on this, NOW."

The ride is the perfect balance of out and out intensity with ejector air, but not enough to beat you to a pulp that you can't ride it anymore (as it was previously). Even with the anti rollbacks and trim neat the end, it does nothing to hinder this ride!!!

Now SFNE has SROS AND a "upper echelon" woodie to their credit. I sincerely hope the park and this ride gets the credit it deserves.

Was Superman:ROS open yesterday?
Of course. Could you imagine what a debacle it would have been to open the year without your signature ride?

Hope to get some more rides in next weekend as well. Which means another 3 hour trip each way :-)

HaHa, I wouldn't want to imagine it. I will be going for the first time next month. How does it compare to the versions at the other two SixFlagsPark, as I, have only been on the one at Darien Lake?
I've been on SMRoS at SFDL and the one at SFNE is better. IT is an awesome ride.

I am glad to here the cyclone is better than before. I rode it once and swore never to ride it again. IT looks like I am going to have to eat my words. Can't wait to get out to the park.
oh yeah definetly agreed it is sooooo much better! and makes the rest of the ride faster.
they probably should have made a clone of the first drop instead of making there own though.
Kevin, glad you like the new Cyclone, I thought it was AWESOME, but I was saddened by the changes - however, I never rode the orginal so for someone to say it is better makes me think I dind't miss out after all.

And as for S:ROS - that is simply the best and stacks better than the one at SFA (although that one was good as well).

SFNE is one of SF better parks - 2 amazing coasters and excellent theming!

grant, you DID NOT miss out on anything the old first drop was steeper and longer BUT, it was very PAIMFUL and SLOOOOOOW and barely made it up the second hill, so be glad you caught cyclone at its best. although the old drop was not rough in the early ninties and it was actually better than this one is... otherwise cyclone hasnt been this good since 1994!
The "new" Cyclone is definitely better than before. Last year I cut my knee pretty badly against the car during the first drop, now its is nice and smooth and fast. I road in the Morgan trains during the early nineties and they were horrific. I thought I had "Bo Jacksoned" my hip after riding it. I couldn't walk right for a week. This year is definitely the best that it has ever been. All it needs now is a new paint job and maybe a more reliable chain and motor. It's a great ride and a good compliment to SROS.
I haven't rode it since it was reprofiled. I've only ridden it twice, once last year and the other time was years ago (maybe 93 or 94). I never really enjoyed the ride. I felt it was too intense (for me) to re-ride. I will definately try to get on it next time I'm there because it is a great coaster.

64 coasters ridden (so far)
21 are wood and 43 are steel
I think the whole coaster could use new track. There are parts when the train jolts and jerks more than one would expect from a good woodie. The lumber on the ride is old and needs to be completely redone. With that, it could be a top ten coaster.
