From the press release:

The most-asked question on Blue Man Group’s social media accounts was answered today, as the global entertainment phenomenon announces plans to return to Orlando with a new home at ICON Park – the 20-acre entertainment destination in the heart of Orlando’s entertainment district.

Blue Man Group wrapped up a successful 14-year run in Orlando in 2021 during COVID, taking a three-year hiatus to determine the right time, place, and concept to return to the most-visited destination in the U.S...

A new 500-seat theatre will be at ICON Park’s Universal Boulevard entrance. The new theater will be specifically designed to accommodate Blue Man Group’s multi-sensory performance, equipped with state-of-the-art acoustics, lighting and video capabilities to create a one-of-a-kind immersive experience for the audience.

This was floating around with "don't tell anyone" caveats a few months ago, but I wasn't convinced that it was a for-sure thing. Happy that it's happening though, because I love BMG. A little surprised that Cirque didn't work with Disney to put the show at Springs. Or maybe they did and didn't like the terms.

I'm not sure where you would put a new theater at Springs without removing something that currently makes money.

What's in the big former NBA Quest building?

Yeah, I was wondering about the old Disney Quest space and found out it became the NBA Experience attraction. Bad timing around Covid caused it to close in early 2020. Just this last February there was a permit for demolition granted but no new tenant has been announced and the extent of the demo isn’t known. Adena has the contract.

To demo the building and build new, or renovate to turn into a theater would probably be outside the cost and timeline that BMG would have wanted. They likely have a much better deal on rent at iCon Park as well.

I doubt Cirque was ever going to agree to BMG in DS in addition to Drawn to Life, the shows would cannibelize each other.

Very cool! So will this be on Universal property near Epic Universe?

No, it's across and down the street.

I don't buy that two shows are really competing because of proximity. I mean, how many shows are they running in Vegas, including BMG? Springs has shows in House of Blues, too, right next to Drawn.

I don't agree that they would conflict with each other, either. Las Vegas has a ton of theaters (and shows). Ditto Branson, Pigeon Forge, etc.

I saw Drawn to Life with my family once. It was very good, but we aren't going again anytime soon. If BMG was at Springs, we would likely go once as well. I think the Springs crowd can handle multiple shows.

BMG was at least annual for us. Might be an autism thing for me and Simon. They were the first music that he routinely listened to. There's something appealing about the music and the way they innocently include people.

In Vegas the shows don’t have to compete with daily nighttime spectaculars at 3 theme parks on site, and 2 off site parks that run them at least half the year.

Yeah, but at Disney the shows don't have to compete with hookers and blackjack.

The sheer volume of people at Springs most any night implies that there's probably room for another show or five.

If they needed another show they would already have one.

Opening in late 2024? I'm not holding my breath, but how lucky would I be for this to be open for our Universal trip in late November!

My coworkers' partner plays bass for the BMG group here in Chicago. Kinda sweet! Never a bad show! If you haven't seen BMG treat yourself you're missing out!
