The proposed expansion wouldn’t increase Disney’s 490-acre (488-hectare) footprint in Southern California or change what the company already has permission to build. But it could help the company develop new attractions. They could place rides and entertainment options on what is currently a sprawling, 50-acre (20-hectare) parking lot — and move parking for Disneyland to a multistory structure — all while keeping within the boundaries of a resort surrounded by residential neighborhoods.

I feel like this is the 10th time this was approved.

Not that I had any idea in the world what a hectare was before a few minutes ago, but this is a typo (and yes, it's a typo in the article). Apparently a hectare contains 2.47 acres. If the quoted text was accurate, an acre would be 99.6% the size of a hectare, which would (and did, hence this post) make me wonder why we have those two different measurements.
I'm going to start telling people who ask that I live on 1.62 hectares. I look forward to the blank stares.

Not out of the woods quite yet. Still needs to pass city council too I think. But if it cleared the planning peeps, I don't see why it wouldn't.
The demand for more capacity is certainly there.
