Racing drone footage of Helix. This is the coolest off ride footage I've ever seen, by far.

Nice. They did a video like this for Hakugei and it was really cool too.

That ride is amazing. I don't think I've ever seen that before. I assume that the flight of that drone is completely pre-programmed, because there's no way anyone is skilled enough to fly like that on the, uh, fly, with the trees and supports and all.

I would assume it's pre-programmed as well, though I have seen some amazing live drone footage for different extreme sports.

I don't know Jeff. I would think it would be possible for a highly skilled drone racer to be able to pull this off in real time, especially if they were a fan of that coaster and new the layout. I would really like to know if it was human controlled or not.

Regardless, it's awesome.

Fever I really enjoy the Simpsons. It's just a shame that I am starting to LOOK like Homer.

Flying it manually real time and knowing how to program it to fly a specific route are both equally impressive to me.

I beg to differ.

That's not the same... that's turn and point after each gate. The coaster follow has to do a fair amount of tracking lateral movement where you can't see the obstacles, especially at the start and in the direction reversal areas.

I know they have drones that can track you. Some people use them for skiing and kite boarding. I understand there is a transmitter that you carry and it tracks off that. Some of them have obstacle avoidance. Not sure if they would be sufficiently sophisticated to track the coaster and avoid the trees. At some point presumably they will be but not sure we are there yet.

I'm not saying it isn't programmed; it probably is, considering how smooth and calculated the drone path is. But I'm not seeing any lateral movement where there were any obstacles that weren't visible a few frames prior. And based on the video I posted, it doesn't seem impossible that someone could possess the skills to shoot like that on the fly.

I wouldn't bet the cost of a drone that expensive on anyone's ability. 😱

Apparently it was not a pre-programmed sequence. But read those details on what his rig includes...

That's some pretty impressive skills. I have a hundred dollar drone that my wife got me for Christmas a few years ago and I feel like I'm doing good if I can keep it from blowing onto my neighbor's roof or into their backyard. It may make me feel like an idiot, but "can I get my toy out of your backyard?" and "I promise I wasn't spying on you" are great icebreakers with neighbors you've never met.

I expected it was preprogramed as well based on how elegant the photography was, but I know there are those with mad skills out there. Here is one insane example:
