Feature: The failure of the Hard Rock theme park

From the feature:

Hard Rock Park boasted rides themed around Led Zeppelin songs and acid trips, but it closed after just five months, amid the 2008 financial crisis. Ten years later, we visited the abandoned site to find out how it went off the rails.

Horry County SC like Sevier County TN highly voted for Trump. Right there is a great statement on how white trash those areas are

Half the country is white trash? Asking for a friend...

Yes but not because they voted for Trump.

That seems like an inevitable outcome. It's all so staggering how something could fail so hard, even when you know the math behind the story.

Surprisingly, there's worse. It's not as bad as Wild West World in Kansas City which was only open for 2 months.

I hate that I missed this park, as well as Pavilion.

Great feature, and quite unbelievable that the place failed as hard as it did.

Pavilion was definitely a nice evening. It was an interesting cross between an amusement park with permanent rides and a carnival midway with quite a few portable European spectaculars. All of it was done pretty well, and it had a great location on the strip. Just about everyone passed through there, and it was always lively. One thing they did well was advertise- you couldn’t pick up a brochure or a vacation book without seeing a large ad for the park inside.

I was there before their woody, Hurricane, was constructed, but (oddly, maybe) it’s a ride that I can’t say I’m sorry about missing. I never heard good things about it.

But I was heartsick when the news came that the park would close with the property scheduled to become home to a higher-end development. I somehow knew that would be a fail- that kind of clientele isn’t usually present and it was a misguided attempt to draw them to the strip. I seem to remember nothing came to pass after all, which is the greatest crime. The park was kind of perfect for that spot.

Heading to the Myrtle Beach area this summer. I hadn't kept up with anything going on there, but have fond memories of my cousin and I riding their corkscrew coaster and some of the carnival-style rides.

I was sad to see that it was gone. It was a great place to spend a day, or even just a half day, as there wasn't much wait for any of the rides. I see a nearby shopping area has some flat rides, but nothing really excites me to go and visit.

The latest news for the property is that the former mayor is buying the former park, but without any intention to do anything with it, and definitely not make it a new park.

Interesting. Then why buy it?

But then again, what do I know?

New TLC show: Park Flippers. Watch as investors pick up an amusement park at rock-bottom prices, rehab the area, and resell it for a tidy profit.

I wasn't going to post a new news item, but here's some ruin porn from the park:
