They are lap bars, but at the top they have a larger recatagular piece of padding. When the bar is closed, it makes contact with almost all your belly, not just below the bellybutton like most lapbars. At the bottom of the bar, there is a bar running across. Your feet go under this bar. It is also padded with a separator between the feet. Sometimes hard to manuipulate yourself in, but this keeps your feet/knees in the proper position to keep you tight under the lapbar.

The FOF lapbars are more or less just like the SOB lapbars, with the exceptions that FOF's has an ankle bar and a go/no-go hook.

As i understand the hook that connects the bar to the side of the car is the big factor. If it clips then you are free to ride.

The lapbars can be heinous to larger people. I should know. I can't ride it anymore since the change. It's not that the lapbar isn't over my lap (I'm 6'4/280, as a guage), it's the clip on the side. It comes about an inch or two short of making a connection. I'm surprised that they don't have an 'extender clip' for this ride, like Volcano has for its belts, but then again, thems the breaks. At least I got to ride it during its headbanging days....

As a reference, if you have big legs and/or you are tall, just like Sonny, you might have trouble. Just remember, the bar isn't so much the problem, it's the clip.

Pki was cheap. They have a clip for a backup. Pkd has a seat belt.

So, in short, will someone who is almost 6'1" and 260lbs have a problem?

So, Is it essential to have the clip? How big is the clip exactly?

Im 6`5, 255lbs. and I dont have a problem with FOF, but SOB for me is a very tight fit.

The clip is basically what they go by. If you can get the clip hooked, then your fine. Someone who is that dimentions shouldnt have a problem, mondbender, but it will most likely be close. Good luck.

If i remember correctly PKI loaned a train to PKD. So, how can PKD have B&M lapbars (which I don't know iF they do, but highly doubt it) if they have a PKI train w/ the restraint like Sonny? *** This post was edited by matt1080 on 7/5/2001. ***

So, will I encounter any problems on any of the rides at either PKI or CP?

The problem is that size and weight are not the only criteria. I am 5'12" :), weigh about 240#, and have a 38" waist and 30" inseam. I can fit into rides that people shorter, lighter, and thinner than me have problems with (Scooby's Ghoster Coaster at PKI comes to mind). On the other hand, there are rides where I can't fit at all where people who are taller, bigger, and heavier than I am have no trouble at all (such as King Cobra at PKI). Whether you can fit or not on a particular ride is going to depend on some very specific relationships. I've seen people have problems with Flight of Fear not because their legs were too long or their waistlines were too big, but because their feet (or at least their shoes) were too tall.

The answer is, you won't know unless you try. And unfortunately, there is no test seat. It does seem to me, though, that fewer people are being turned away than back when the ride had shoulder bars. Only thing is, now it's different people...!

Both FoF`s have the same type of lapbars. They`re the sonny bars, only orange and have a foot bar by the ankles. The only difference between PKI`s and PKD`s lapbars, is the small belt that attaches to the car from the lapbar. PKD`s does not have B&M lapbar`s, as both FoF`s were designed by Premier. What I believe was being referenced to is that FoF`s bars are similiar to B&M`s hyper lapbars.
