Attendance down at park's including CF
With CF reporting a 4% loss in attendance from last year, do you think other chains are being affected also. This has been a real lackluster summer for nice day's I know that has affected attendance or do you think economy has something to do with it also.

Economy for sure, less income = less trips to the park.

true thanks to the lovely gas prices, and the rise of prices in general while wages stay the same truely effects everything. I also believe the ridiculus high prices of the parks themselves have something to do with it. Its almost $100 for me and my fiance to get into six flags Great adventure. thats just too much i would like to eat there too.

Economy is the major factor, but another could be that The Point doesn't have a new coaster this year. Compared to last year's record attendance, a 4% loss might not mean anythign except, "I already rode Millennium Force."

I just saw a report on the news the other day that attendance at many parks has been way up this year. Reason?
When gas prices are high, people don't travel less, they just don't go as far, which means that many people are staying closer to home, meaning that more people are going to their local amusement park instead of somewhere further away. The main focus of this was PKI, but they also mentioned that attendance at SF parks was up too.
And Intamin Fan: this being a lack luster year for coasters (which is debatable) has nothing to do with it. The general public could really care less about the quality of the coasters being built this year.

I work at Valleyfair our attandance has been down also. We only on one Saturday had our main lot full all the way up to the toll booth lanes. I'm sure we will pick up in a few weeks. I'm wondering if Cedar Fair is going to open up anything at all for 2002? Rumors of Valleyfair Inverted & Cedar Point 3 new coasters in 2002 or not?
Well if I remember correctly, all of the Cedar Fair parks besides Valleyfair(because of Power Tower) and Cedar Point(because of MF) were down or even last year and the main reason they had a record season was, because of the addition of 2 or 3 new waterparks. I think this is correct, but not positive. And I do know that PKI is up 6 or 7% from this time last year(from a local news report a week or so ago). Word gets around if there's something "new" and worthy(FOF).
