SeaWorld San Diego announces Electric Eel roller coaster

Plans for the Electric Eel coaster — which would open in early summer 2018 — come on the heels of already announced attractions as the park and its parent company struggle to boost attendance and revenue. Electric Eel will feature loops, twists and a nearly 150-foot ascent followed by an inverted roll that will offer riders an upside-down view of Mission Bay.

SeaWorld is building 3 coasters in 3 consecutive years...and all 3 are different manufacturers (B&M, Intamin, Premier). Things are definitely different in Shamu-land.

Anyone else confused on why they are able to build a 150 foot tall structure when they have a limit of 30 feet or something crazy like that?

I'm always at the information and insight you can pick up just from simply reading (or scanning in my case) the linked article:

"Although San Diego maintains a 30-foot height limit in the coastal zone, SeaWorld’s approved master plan allows for an exception of up to 160 feet on four designated sites."

It's 2017.
