Looks like they've been going to Costco and buying rides in bulk.

The Giant Discovery is a great ride. That'll be a good addition. Looks like the 4D coasters have caught on, too. Nothing overly spectacular here, but solid additions.

Poor, poor St. Louis....

Lex Luthor? Mr. Six? I immediately went to Daddy Warbucks.

So wait, VR is being added to Medusa Steel Coaster? Six Flags Mexico's RMC? I continue to be baffled by which coasters Six Flags VR's...

This is starting to feel like a "slim" year for coasters in North America but I don't really have the data to back that up yet.

RCDB has not been fully updated with 2017 coasters (and some haven't been announced yet). But in 2016, it looks like 36 new coasters were constructed in North America, 45 in 2015, 33 in 2014, and 32 in 2013, 30 in 2012, 28 in 2011, and 27 in 2010.

Note that the numbers will be a little off because of how RCDB reports re-opened or moved coasters and I don't have time to do all the data cleaning. Still interesting. Maybe 2015 was an outlier.

Anyone else think that the lack of an RMC (other than the free spins) improves the chances that one may come for Mean Streak next year?

Hey, let's ride (random Intamin coaster). What? It's broken down? I totally didn't expect that.

I think the lack of a RMC just means that Six Flags isn't adding any this year. One thing has nothing to do with the other.

And everyone thought that Cedar Fair's announcements for 2017 sucked ass.

The largest investment (15-20 millions US$) is over in Mexico. They are spending that money to take over and refurbish a closed waterpark an hour and a half from Mexico City. It is being rebranded as "Hurricane Harbor" and the promo video showed at least a new Proslide Tornado.

Speaking of Proslide, I am very happy with SFFT getting Thunder Rapids. Its an amazing new ride and the FlyingSaucer are awesome!

The Free Flies are a cheaper way to add to coaster counts. Bad capacity and nothing spectacular. Like they mass installed superloops. But this is a chain that is about quantity over quality, especially focusing on quantity in one area and neglecting many of the other aspects (oveall park maintenance, landscaping, live shows, all-around family rides etc).

With more of the same things at different parks, they become less of a destination.

What is with all the super-hero theming? Lack of creativity?

Beyond a very small group of people, none of them are "destinations".

Am I the only one that had no clue that Six Flags had a new CEO?

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

Six Flags is trying to bring a sense of familiarity and cohesiveness to its parks. Much like Marriott was doing, and even the Paramount parks were doing - installing similar rides, having similar layouts, signature front entrances, etc..

I really can't fault them for doing exactly what they're doing. Maybe with the return they get, Lex Luthor can buy a better fitting shirt :)

Just listened to SFDK's and SFSL's ads back to back and it's apparent they're nearly identical audio wise. It's this kind of stuff that Six Flags does that drives me nuts. Clearly no effort being put in... Duplicate rides, duplicate names... Duplicate parks next?

You complain about SF? i can go to disney parks and ride the same rides and the price to get in those parks is alot more than SF and their rides aren't as thrilling to me! Let me know when one of those parks adds a top steel coaster or a kick ass woodie or RMC!

Well, to be fair, the Disney experience is more than thrilling rides. Sorry.
