Teen arrested at Blackpool Pleasure Beach after firing up Blue Flyer

Two teenagers went for a 4am joyride on a rollercoaster at a theme park after getting into the control room and switching the ride on. The pair scaled fences to get into the Blackpool Pleasure Beach on Friday and were spotted on CCTV cameras riding the Blue Flyer ride. A 15-year-old boy from Blackpool was arrested at the scene and given a community resolution order, which is not classed as a conviction.

So... their rides just sit there overnight waiting for someone to press a button? There's no keyswitch or wheel locks or lift hill lock? That seems odd.

Our ride keys were locked in a strong box overnight in a locked office. Yes...strange indeed!

I was thinking the same thing. How strange.

I think to a large degree it's cultural. Many time I saw signs in the UK saying something along the lines of "please don't cross this 3' high split rail fence." Here, we assume someone WOULD cross over, and need a tall fence with barbed wire...

Our ride keys were also locked and needed a swipe of an employee ID in addition to the key.

I guess all those old movies and cartoons where you can just sneak into a park in the middle of the night and start up a ride were more realistic than I thought. No word on whether the kids also hit the emergency stop button, causing the coaster to immediately grind to a halt upside-down at the top of the loop.

After which they pulled off a mask to reveal who the culprit really was.

They would've gotten away with it too if it hadn't been for those...oh, wait. They ARE the meddling kids.

It's probably one of the most urban parks going, as this post shows...

Nothing to see here. Move along.
