Disney featuring Star Wars at sea on their cruise line

With Disney now flying the “Star Wars” brand and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” blasting box office records, it was only a matter of time before the franchise made waves on Disney Cruise Line. The result is “Star Wars” Day at Sea, a daylong celebration taking place through April on a total of eight of the Disney Fantasy’s Western Caribbean sailings departing out of Port Canaveral, Fla.

I've wanted to do one of these, but admittedly I've been hesitant about taking off a week "just" to go the Caribbean. I'm stingy about long trips, and feel like they need to be saved for something more exotic.

Then take one of their Alaskan trips. We did one, and it was fantastic.

Yeah, for us Floridians, I feel the Caribbean cruise is only for the food/ship. Seen one island, you seen em all.

The Baltic Capitals Cruise though - (Holy Haysoos)!!! (St Pete/Kiev/Helsinki/Copenhagen/Tallin/Stockhom) Sorry, I seem to chime in all the travel conversations, but its my absolute favorite thing to do (besides coasters) Plus if you have time you can arrange excursions to Grona Lund, Tivoli and Linnanmaki.

How long before they christian a new ship, "The Force"?

If you want to cruise in Europe, I highly recommend a Viking River Cruise. You get much more of the local flavor and culture plus a much better view of the land than a typical ocean cruise that hits a few ports.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Hopefully the one place you see isn't Nassau.

Funny you mention that, because I've "been there" seven times, and never gotten off the boat. It's consistently rated as the worst port in the cruise industry.

Yeah, we did Atlantis once and I'd probably not venture off the boat if we went back, either.

St. Maarten however was great... I'll know about Grand Cayman in a week. :)

On DCL, let's be honest, you do Florida itineraries for Castaway Cay. We'd like to do one that goes to San Juan, but they're not common, and some start or end there (anything not out of Canaveral is less convenient, obviously).

Do the manta ray excursion if you can. A sandbar all by its lonesome in the middle of the bay, surrounded by a bunch of anchored skippers, swimming with mantas everywhere. Cool experience.

Hat tip to KickTheSky for the recommendation.

Vater, I'm guessing you're referring to Stingray City, which are stingrays, not mantas. Mantas are more pelagic and generally wouldn't be in that type of environment. Stingrays are more common in shallow, sandy bottoms.

Jeff, if you're willing to spend a bit more money, I know for sure Anthem of the Seas goes to San Juan in their 12 night itinerary. There's probably some more from Ryal Caribean that go there as well.

Hey, let's ride (random Intamin coaster). What? It's broken down? I totally didn't expect that.

Yeah, I'm not doing 12 nights with my kid, especially on a non-Disney boat. :)

Fair enough, I've been on one Disney cruise, and while it was too short for me, it was probably one of the best experiences I've ever had.

I'm getting close to platinum Castaway Club status. I don't win anything, but I do get fancy black lanyards after that. :)
