Dude jumps fence at Universal Orlando, is promptly arrested

The Orlando Police Department said Universal loss prevention officers told investigators that a man, later identified as 41-year-old Sean Engelmann, climbed over a fence near the Universal Studios Guest Services entrance and entered the park.

I'm all for consequences for actions, and perhaps there is more to this story than in the article. But jail for hopping a fence? Throw the guy out, write him a summons, but jail? Seems like a waste of time and resources in my opinion that could be better focused on real criminal activity.

This is the same location that puts metal detectors in front of its roller coasters, remember?

That being said, I kind of admire the no-nonsense approach to this infringement.

It's private property. If he jumped a fence to break I to your private property, would you simply kick him out and make him pay a fine, or have him arrested?

I'm not a lawyer, but I have watched Law & Order.

Maybe he was drunk, or argumentative, or physically resisted the police? (Or all three?)

For the record, the best Law & Order is L&O UK. All the fun of the stateside versions plus British accents and lawyers wearing wigs.
