AP report shows that SeaWorld animals live longer in captivity

Since the release of a highly-critical documentary last year, SeaWorld Entertainment has been condemned by animal rights activists distressed over the condition of its killer whales. But annual survival rates for some of the most common marine mammals — including killer whales — at SeaWorld's three parks are near the top of all U.S. parks and aquariums, an analysis of five decades of federal data by The Associated Press showed.

I'm not sure why this would surprise anyone. If I lived in the jungle and didn't have access to medical care, certainly my life expectancy would be lower.

Marineland in Florida had a dolphin that lived to be 61 because of the care they took of the animal.

And very few animals at Sea World are eaten by predators, which, statistically speaking, has to help the life span :)
