Australia Sea World opens flume-roller coaster hybrid

With a top speed of 70km/h and pulling 3Gs of force at its fiercest, Sea World claims its new blockbuster ride will be the hit of the summer. At a cost of $20 million to build, Stormcoaster is billed as the most expensive theme park ride in Australia and described as the first in the country to combine a rollercoaster with a flume ride.

Well that was short. $20 million not well spent, imho.

From all reports I've read on the internet from people who've ridden it, it's a fun ride with a lot of great theming.

It actually has my interest, though I'll probably never ride it.

It might be a fun ride, but I'd expect a bit more from the most expensive ride on an entire continent.

As I watched the video, I kept waiting for a payoff that never came. I'd ride it if I was there, but it seems considerably less than thrilling.

From what I can gather, it's all in the theming surrounding the ride and in the queue.

I'd hope that's the case. The video doesn't capture that aspect very well at all.

I saw some pictures yesterday - the whole surrounding area of the ride is setup like a sea town that's been ravaged by a storm. There's flipped over boats, fork lifts, destroyed shacks, etc.

Inside the queue house is a warehouse and it's flooded all around with crates and shipping containers bobbing up and down in the water.

I'll search for some photos, but it looks really well done, to me.

It's also worth mentioning that its pretty expensive to build anything in Australia (or to get anything there).

Nothing to see here. Move along.

What a piece of crap ride that is for that kind of price tag, what a waist of money!

I'm more of a leg man.

I wouldn't stick my neck out for it.

Correct me if I'm wrong- The Australian Sea World is not affiliated with American Sea Worlds, but all four parks have a Mack water coaster.

It was a bit short, but to me it looks like 18 mil worth of money spent....
