Help Save The Phantom

Ud be suprised at what people can do!

Let's be honest, folks. Kennywood IS tight on space, and ridership on Phantom is WAY down. I was there yesterday for preview day, and Kennywood even shorted the queue and got rid of the drink stand. Of the 4 coasters running, it was the ONLY one where instead of having to wait to get on the train, we had to wait on the train for it to fill up!

Steel Phantom was a great ride, and the first two hills are still great, but the combination of the huge drop and tight inversions, coupled with Arrow construction, did NOT age well. Let Kennywood retire the ride gracefully, and give us a new worthy thrill in its place.

I too was there yesterday, and it's an amazing ride... right up until the inversions begin. It's obvious to me why they are ditching the ride. It's really not much fun. The inversions just kill the ride. I think it might also be a liability. People obviously get hurt on that ride or they wouldn't have you remove your earings.

It's a shame, but if they do add a B&M, I'll be back next year.

Steel Phantom consistantly ranks in my personal top 10- but only due to the first two drops. Nothing like that leisurely dip into the ravine. If Kennywood can construct a new coaster with similar hills (and less pain) more power to them. I just hope they stay away from the latest gimmick coasters [read- floorless etc...]. The charm of this park is amazingly quaint, and they should hopefully be looking into a coaster that will continue to compliment it in this way.

I have to agree with GregLeg, SF needs to go. It served it's purpose during its 9 years in operation, but the thrill is gone.

B&M would be a nice addition, as would an Intamin. They can really make good use of that drop into the ravine, through the Thunderbolt for one heck of a drop!

Actually, there's quite a few Arrow loopers out there that you need to remove earrings for. Unless policy has changed, Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags Great Adventure has similar signs, for instance.


I trust Kennywood to make a good decision in their replacement. I've tossed several ideas around, but I'm currently rooting for a B&M Dive Machine. Imagine the vertical drop off the Phantom cliff... :)

Do the ride operators force you to take out the earings before you ride? I have never heard of this. The only thing I have seen on other coasters is they recommend removing them.

I think a B&M dive machine would be swell. I just hope that they would make it longer than the one at Alton Towers. One big hill isnt enough.

On the Phantom, you HAVE to take you earrings off, they won't let you board until you do.

Usually I just take my earring out before going to the park to save myself from losing it :)

This was true of GASM last time I rode it, as well, but they may have backed down from that a bit.
