For five years, Thunder Run, one of the iconic roller coasters at the currently closed Kentucky Kingdom amusement park, was left to rot and rust. Specially invited passengers started to board the ride Thursday for its first public run as repairs and renovations continued across the park in anticipation of its spring reopening.

Why is it that immediately after reading the headline I think of Soylent Green?

I liked Thunder Run a bit. Probably my second favorite at the park on my sole visit, after Chang. A bit rough, but vastly better in the front.

The amusement park rises bold and stark..kids are huddled on the beach in a mist

Did you notice that the back half of the train didn't have seats?

I noticed that too. Maybe a rush to get a few laps in before the snow flies.

Then I'd have to agree with Mike. Definitely a front seat ride.

A rider report at Negative G says "the train was still waiting on some seating to be redone".

No mention of the company that did the work on Thunder Run - it was RMC.

Everything I have ridden that they've touched, I love...

I am so happy to see this and cannot wait to ride this next year. It's amazing to see the determination Ed Hart has to rebuild this park.

With KK and the new coaster at Dollywood, I think a trip to hit both parks in 2014 is in order.
