Vekoma's Quantity Issues
Did anyone notice how Vekoma will be opening 25 new coasters in 2001? I realize that many of these will be cookie cutters, but could this possibly explain the general lack of quality and major problems (i.e. X-Flight/Batwing Lift recline, Deja Vu cable lift)??? B&M is only building 5-6. Hmm...I guess this is a classic case of quantity over quality...any thoughts?
Depends on your definition of quality and how much you value uniqueness - if you only ever visit your home park, no matter how much you love coasters, than does it matter if every park from here to doomsday has a clone of its rides? Personally, I love unique rides rather than cookie-cutters, but there's something to be said for coasters that are becoming staples in parks, something that delivers a good (not necessarily great, but good and still fun) ride, so long as that is not the only coaster at the park.
I'd be willing to wager that most visitors to parks are not hard-core coaster enthusiasts and rarely travel to other parks solely to ride coasters, so the "quantity" issue wouldn't arise. And if you haven't been on better, neither would the "quality"! :)

I think it's more of an issue of what the GP wants.
It's like when I went to SFO(SFWoA)last summer the longest line at the park was for Serial Thiller and S:UE.
As for BKF it was actually a walk on,unless you wanted to ride the very front,and I was at the park on a Friday and Saturday.
IMHO,I think the GP isn't much into,if not don't like B&M's aside from their inverts.

It would seem that your theory is in opposition to itself. If Vekoma is producing cookie-cutter rides, it would seem that the quality should be better. It's in the prototype/unique stage that there would be instances where different problems would arise. If they don't know how to build boomerangs by now, there's a problem.
Also, how much does cloning really matter as to quality? As CrystalKat said, you don't know it's a clone if that's the only one you've seen, which is the case with most of the GP. I'd rather every park have an Invertigo rather than a Musik Express or Tilt-A-Whirl. (Ever notice that you never hear people complain about "cloning" flat rides?)

So what that X-Flight/Batwing doesn't recline on the lift yet. It still works fine without it! The simple fact is that the majority of enthusiasts I've talked to love Batwing and consider it a very intense coaster (and for our area) a unique coaster. Capacity aside, everyone also loves the Invertigo, Two Face, that we have at SFA. kpjb, you get major props for your comment about the cloning of coasters vs. the cloning of flat rides. But, I take issue with your comment about the Boomerangs. Look at Deja-Vu and you'll see one very big difference vs. their other shuttles and that's the verticle towers.
Well when it comes to flat rides we at SFA have a unique roto shake ride,Knott's berry farm is the only other park that I know of that has one.so we are lucky to have that ride. now if only they can get it to work properly without breaking down or getting stuck.
