I really hope not, it could be a fantastic ride with some TLC.

scanz, that is mindless thinking! and thats why america has lost some of the greats, because of dumb thinking like that! not cool indeed.

Sorry, I rode it for the first time friday, and did not like it. Maybe it was because I had a headache.
the ride was fast and very smooth when i first rode it in 94 but things changed. it was the BEST ride in the park and had the LONGEST line now the sortest, sigh. there is still a great ride under all that wood. Scream machine used to rule also.
I hope not i like that ride and it's is SFGAdv only wooden coaster.

By that logic, I should say "Tear down Kumba!" (had a headache when I rode it and did not enjoy it as much as I could have had I not had the headache). [Don't start the flame throwers... that was sarcasm]

I've not been to Six Flags Great Adventure since 1978 (when it was just Six Flags) and I have never ridden Rolling Thunder. However, I believe that the only good reason why a wooden coaster should be torn down is if it is in such bad dis-repair that it would not be feasiable to repair it. Other wise, let it stand!

From the pics I have seen and the layout diagrams I have seen, it looks like a pretty decent coaster. Having heard that it has fallen into disrepair over the past few years, I say "overhaul", don't tear down.

Newer and bigger is not not always better.

SLFAKE, I feel the same way about Kumba.
I rode RT 2 weekends ago in the rain and it was incredible. It was fast, exciting, and a little bit frightening. It felt like it did 10-15 years ago. However, I will agree that on a hot sunny afternoon, this thing will squeal, bang, hop, and drag its way through a miserable ride. Riding it in the rain(front seat)brought to light it's amazing potential. Besides, I do not think you will see one of the very few racing woodies with slightly different track layouts being torn down.
That's the first woodie I've been on where I didn't feel safe!

Paint the thing and stop it squealing!

Keep Rolling Thunder the way it is! It's a wooden coaster with a unique character. It's not the best, but it is still in my opinion a good fun ride. Also, lots of people at SFGAdv. love that ride.

I don't think paint is the answer. They should just sand it all off and let it look like a wooden coaster is supposed to: wooden.
A coat of paint isn't a maintenance fix it is eye candy. Rolling thunder is in fact now being maintained.
There are several areas of the track that have already been replaced. At least two of the trains have been completely rebuilt and the yellow train hasn't been seen yet this year.
As far as the sound and the sqealing as far as I can remember that has always been there.
If you look closely at the structure and you can see a lot more of it now there have been many repairs. The railing on the train run has been painted. It is still a great ride and needs to stand as it is not only a great coaster but, a one of a kind design that has not been duplicated.

agreed.
I dont see how Any coaster enthusist etc could want a coaster to be torn down! dosent anyways care for a decent classic anymore?
I'm the only one in my immediate family who loves RT - I've ridden it since it's construction! I wouldn't want it torn down, just maintained on a regular basis so it's safe and stays that way! And I agree...take the stupid chipped white paint off and let it be...wooden. Plus on an ecological level...RT was once Alive (trees), something you can't say about a steel coaster, so it deserves some respect!
