When Hurricane Sandy decimated the Keansburg Amusement Park, owners Hank and William Gehlhaus quickly determined they wanted to have the park reopened by Easter – the traditional start of park’s season. But only a few weeks removed from Sandy, they had no clue what it would take to get there.

I wonder if the Wildcat is totaled, they said it's leaving. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that has been non-operational for a while.

It was working well last year.

I can only imagine how much damage they took from the storm. I hope the fishing pier (Or at least part of it) is still going to open.

Although I've lived in Jersey my whole life, I've never been to Keansburg. Is it worth a stop if I'm heading down that way or in the vicinity?

Not sure if they still do it (we visited about a decade ago) - but they used to put graphite down on the floor of the bumper cars....massive sliding.

Mike,

I think it's a must see - but only if you are already in the vacinity unless you have little kids. There are a ton of old but decent kiddie rides and a decent free beach (Granted with few amenities).

The waterpark is small - but uses its limited space well. There are some sidewalk restaurants and drinking establishments for those who like that sort of thing, some decent food stands, games and a series of batting cages.

The deal sealer for me is the fishing pier that is about half a mile long. There is a bait store and snack shack there and every so often they use a golf cart to make snack runs along the structure. You can catch blues, bass, fluke and porgies there.

The layout is a bit haphazard...a ride here a stand there...not too much order and not too many bathrooms.

There is a small tower ride, a swinging ship ride, a chaos and a Moby Dick.

Granted all of this was before the storm.

By the way...since they deal mostly with kiddie rides, I found the clientele decent and not overly obnoxous in any way.

Nice spot to just hang out, eat a few things, go on a few rides and watch the sunset.
